Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT
1) Use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below
a. Using 3D model create a section box
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view
f. To select the previously selected items
g. To add annotations to the model views
h. To bring the model elements in line
i. To rotate the model elements
j. To move an object to another location
k. To copy a model element
l. To mirror an element about an axis
m. To create an array of model elements
Introduction:
Schedules:
A schedule is a tabular display of information, extracted from the properties of the elements in a project. A schedule can list every instance of the type of element you are scheduling, or it can collapse multiple instances onto a single row, based on the schedule's grouping criteria.
All schedules update automatically when you modify the model. For example, if you move a wall, the square footage updates in a room schedule accordingly.
When you change the properties of building components in the model, the associated schedule updates automatically.
For example, you could select a door in the model and change its manufacturer property. The door schedule would reflect the change to the manufacturer's property.
Dynamo and Revit together can be utilized to model and analyze complex geometries, automate repetitive processes, minimize human error, and export data to excel files and other file types not typically supported by Revit.
Aim:
a. Using a 3D model create a section box
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view
f. To select the previously selected items
g. To add annotations to the model views
h. To bring the model elements in line
i. To rotate the model elements
j. To move an object to another location
k. To copy a model element
l. To mirror an element about an axis
m. To create an array of model elements
Answer:
a) Using a 3D model create a section box:
Shortcut key used: Section Box - BX
b) To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout
Short cut key use: Create Similar - CS
c) To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
The shortcut key used: Thin Lines - TL
d) To apply override settings to a floor in the mode section view
The shortcut key used: Visible Graphics and override settings - VG
e) To increase the range of visibility in a plan view
The shortcut key used: View Range - VR
f) To select the previously selected items
Short cut key used: Reselect - Ctrl + <
g) To add annotations to the model views
The shortcut key used: Dimension - DL
h) To bring the model elements in line
The shortcut key used: Align - AL
i) To rotate the model elements
The shortcut key used: Rotate - R
j) To move an object to another location
The shortcut key used: Move - MV
k) To copy a model element
The shortcut key used: Copy - CO
l) To mirror an element about an axis
The shortcut key used: Mirror - MM
m) To create an array of model elements
The shortcut key used: Array - AR
2) Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood
Aim: To prepare the schedule for the following:
a) Walls
b) Doors
c) Windows
d) Material-Concrete/Wood
Procedure:
Open the architectural model created previously.
Then go to the view tab - Schedules - Schedule/quantities.

a) Wall schedule:
Now select the required fields

Choose the wall schedule parameter from the scheduling and then click OK.

Hence, the wall schedule is prepared.
b) Door schedule

c) Window Schedule:

d) Floor schedule:

Floor material takeoff
Go to the view tab - Schedules - Material Takeoff.

3) Using Revit Calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.
Aim:
To prepare the schedule report for the area and volume of each room
Procedure:
Go to View - Schedule - Schedule/quantities.
Now select the category as rooms.

4) Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available in the internet, prepare total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Take off
Aim:
To prepare the schedule of the total cost of materials.
Procedure:
Go to the view tab - Schedules - Material Takeoff.

Wall:

Window:

Floor:

5) Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario
a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo ?
b. If there is no water coming from the pipes
c. If request for money from client has been declined for the project
a)

b)

6) List the parameters associated with each model element
a. Wall
b. Floor
c. Door
d. Window
e. Table
f. Building
Parameters associated with each model element are as follows:
a) Walls:
- Wall type
