Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT
AIM_1: Use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below
ANSWER: The shortcut keys can be given as follows:-
a. Using a 3D model create a section box: BX
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout: CS
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views: TL
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view: EOD
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view: VR
f. To select the previously selected items: CTRL + <
g. To add annotations to the model views: DL
h. To bring the model elements inline: AL
i. To rotate the model elements: RO
j. To move an object to another location: MV
k. To copy a model element: CO
l. To mirror an element about an axis: MM
m. To create an array of model elements: AR
AIM_2: Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood
PROCEDURE:
- Open the project 2 file.
- Go to the view tab.
- Select the schedules icon.
- Now select the schedules/quantities option from the drop-down list.
- Then a dialog box will appear.
- Select the door, wall, or anything you want to give a schedule of!
- Now another dialog box appears.
- Add the family type, cost, length, width, height, etc, etc. Whichever fields you wish to see in the schedule.
- Then click OK and a schedule will be create.
- Please have a look at the below snips for more clarity.
RESULTS: Different schedules were created.

AIM_3: Using Revit Calculate the area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for the area and volume of each room.
PROCEDURE:
- In the project 2 architectural file, go to the architectural tab.
- Select the area tab and create gross area plans for all the floors.
- Now from the project browser go to the area tab, where all the plans will be there.
- Now select any floor and add the area tags to it by creating area boundaries.
- Similarly, create the room boundaries and create room tags for each room.
- Now go to the view menu and create a schedule for both room tags and area tags for all the floors.
- Please have a look at the below snips for more clarity.
RESULTS: Room tags and area tags were added to the plans. A schedule for each was then created as well.

AIM_4: Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available on the internet, prepare the total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Takeoff
PROCEDURE:
- Go to the 1st floor architectural floor plan, in your project 2 architectural model.
- Click each different elements and then click edit type.
- In that dialog box scroll down, there will be a tab to add cost for each unit of the materials.
- Add the cost as per the market for each category.
- Now go to the schedules and create a material take off schedule.
- Add cost, count, type, level etc etc.
- Create the schedule.
- Please have a look at the below snips for more clarity.
RESULTS: The cost schedule for different categories were created.

AIM_5: Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario
a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo?
b. If there is no water coming from the pipes
c. If the request for money from the client has been declined for the project
ANSWER:
- How to decide on framings for a structure using Dynamo?
- Decide the location
- Get the soil sample of the plot tested.
- Then decide what type of building is to be constructed.
- To check the occupancy of the building.
- Determine loads on beams and columns
- Determine the height of the building.
- Determine the dimensions of beams and columns
- Determine the dimensions of the footing.
- Determine the dimensions of reinforcement bars
- If there is no water coming from the pipes
- Check the water pump.
- If the water pump is working then check the main pipeline connections.
- If the connection is proper then check the pipe.
- The place where the issue is detected then needs to be resolved.
- If the request for money from the client has been declined for the project
- Send the quotation to the client with a detailed report of all the charges applied.
- If, he doesn't respond personally visit the client and explain them thoroughly.
- Give some time, even after that he rejects and then stops the work.
AIM_6: List the parameters associated with each model element
a. Wall
b. Floor
c. Door
d. Window
e. Table
f. Building
ANSWER:
- Wall :
- area, volume, type of wall, thickness, height
- Floor:
- type, material, finishing, thickness
- Door:
- height, width, material, cost, framing
- Window:
- height, width, material, cost, frame
- Table:
- type, placement, cost
- Building:
- no. of levels, type of structure.], type of buildings area of the building, FSI, locations, purpose.
