Introduction to National Building Code and Steps in a Construction project
A1) The National Building Code of India (NBC), a comprehensive building Code, is a national instrument providing guidelines
for regulating the building construction activities across the country. It serves as a Model Code for adoption by all
agencies involved in building construction works be they Public Works Departments, other government construction departments,
local bodies or private construction agencies. The Code mainly contains administrative regulations, development control rules
and general building requirements; fire safety requirements; stipulations regarding materials, structural design and
construction (including safety); building and plumbing services; approach to sustainability; and asset and facility management.
It helps in efficency and modelling by giving guidelines to the design engineer/design team to prgress with the work according to certain guidelines whch will make the project cost effective and would help in avoiding revisions which may result in time and money cost.
A2) the follorwing groups will be helpful while modelin in revit
Group 1 For development, buidling and planning related activities
Group 2 structural design and related aspects
Group 4 aspects relatng to building services
A3) Five major steps in project cycle
1. Survey of the area - the area is surveyed thoroughly to understand the topography, geological factors and what kind of design and concept will be suitable according to the land
2. Conceptualization - the design drafts are prepared with the owners requirements in mind with the help of the NBC so that there aren't any construction/design errors to avoid repetitions. After the design is finalised and adheres to the NBC standards only then the execution takes place.
3. Execution - This step involves the final construction of the building and giving it the aesthetic according to the design
4. Submission - after the project has been completed, it is handed over to the owner or it is allowed for people to buy flats/shops in the building
5. Maintenance - this is an important step after the above steps have been complete. the building should be maintained at time to time intervals so that the life is not shortened and it is always in optimum condition.
A4) Different disciplines in the construction of a project
1. Surveying
2. planning & designing
3. construction and execution
4. commencement and giving final touches
5. handing over to the owner
6. Periodic Maintenance and repairs
A5) Four unit apartments - Residential
School - Educational/institutional
Shopping complex - Mercantile/Business
Steel factory - industrial
A6) Design team - the desing tem consists of architects, interns and design engineer. the main role of the deisng team is to conceptualize the design and prepare drafts or make changes to exisitng structure for the client taking in mind various factors and make sure it adheres to the standards of the NBC.
Management team - the management team consists of project managers/construction managers who make sure the project is being done as per schedule and make sure it is within the budget finalised for the project
