Introduction to National Building Code and Steps in a Construction project
1) Why are building codes or standards essential for the modeling/ efficiency of drawings in Revit ?
- The building codes are essential for the revit drawings becouse this provide the standerds for all the kind of structures wheather they are residential, commercial, may be in urban area or in the rural area.
- This says the the safety laws for the every kind of constructions. That must be followed for the safety of the construction.
- It also says the modern construction methods according to their standerders.
- By following the building codes we can have a modern and effective construction with all the safety for the construction.
- With the standerders following in the building code the approval of the project will be simple becouse the standers are provided by the government for the law of safety.
2) From the National Building Code list the groups that will be essential to you when you begin modeling in Autodesk Revit?
- From the national building code we can see the classification of the structure by groups to provide proper standerds to that kind of structure.
- This are mainly classified into 9 types. they are
- Group A: Residential Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the residential buildings.
- Group B: Educational Buildings In this standererds are provided approprait to the educational buildings.
- Group C: Assembly Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the assembly buildings.
- Group D: Institutional Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the assembly building.
- Group E: Mercantile Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the mercantile bildings.
- Group F: Business Buildings in this standerds are provided approprait to the business buildinds.
- Group G: storage Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the storage buildings.
- Group H: Institutional Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the institutional buildings.
- Group J: Hazardous Buildings In this standerds are provided approprait to the hazardous buildings.
3) List the five major steps that occur in project cycle . The steps should include from conceptualization of project to maintenance and final stage?
- The five steps that include the project cycle are
Initial: In which we can identify the want we can do with the project. To identify the scope and deliverables of the project.
Planning: In this stage project is now sub dived into small groups and carried out the assairments to achive the goals. In this we create a plan and work flow diagram, budject estimation, resources gathering, and identifying the risks.
Execution: In this phase we will execute the plan which are exicuted in the project and making sure everything goes according to the plan. in this phase they handle the things by creating the smaller grops and handiling the projects.
Monitoring/Controll: In this phase the project is controlled and moniterd entire project.
Closure: In this phase we will provide final deliverables. analyze the team performance and providing the documentation for the documentation.
4) Give examples of different disciplines involved in construction of a project?
There are seven discipline involved in the construction project are;
- Construction: This involve managing the project from starting to the ending and dealing with the clients.
- Finance and Estimating: This invole getting the finance for the project whith the estimation of the project cost with the help of the project details.
- Contracts and Bids: They involve in the strong bidding practices to get the project.
- Geotechinical: They helps in design foundation and earthquick system to support the soil while stransfering the load from the structures to the earth.
- Managements: They help in provide the right equipment at right time and provide the supply to the project.
- Structural: they design the structural member according to the structuture. so that structure is stay for the long time stabily.
- Surveying: They can provide the layout by surveying the diatances and the levels so that we can provide the structure.
5) How are buildings classified ? Place the following buildings under each category
a. Four unit apartments
b. School with capacity of 1000 students
c. A single unit shop.
d. Multi story Shopping complex
e. Steel machine factory
Ans) These buildings are classified with there properties they are classified
a) Four unit apartment Is classied in the Group A Residential Building.
b) School with capacity of 1000 students Is classified in the Group B educational Building.
c) A single unit shop Is classified in the Group E Mercentile building.
d) Multy Story shopping complex Is classified in the Group E Mercentile Bilding.
e) Steel Machine Factory Is classified in the Group H Industrial building.
6) Distinguish the roles of Design team and Management team?
Ans) The roles played by design team and the management team are:
Design Team:
- This design team helps in finalizing the project.
- They helps in identifying the evaluationaries in the projects.
- They impliment proper desing for the desired project by connecting with the team and follwing the Nation building code they design the project.
Management Team:
- They should accomplish the project with respect to the budget and the time.
- Whike executing the desing in the construction phase they check with the inter-disceplinary connection.
- They must help complete the project with satisfactory of the project while achiving the time, cost, quality.
7) Refer to NBC, Identify the modeling requirements for the project ( from week 4).
a. Height Limitations
b. Area Limitations
c. Room sizing
d. Wall height
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety
f. Passageway requirements
Ans) Identify the Modelling recuiremnt by using the national building code
a) Height Limitations:
After refering to the week 4 project my building hight is 7.014m. so we take clause C-2.5 national building code 2005 (Page no 43) we can see the our building should not exceed 15M.
As the Building is less then 15m there is no need to provide the lift for the building.
If house for low income should be less then two stores.
Hence, I followed NBC guidlines.
b) Area limitations:
As per NBC C 2.3.1 Page 43.
The area occupency should not be less then 30 Sq m in metro area.
In my week four project the area i occupied is 111.18 sq m area.
Hence i followed the NBC guidlines.
c) Room Size:
As per NBC 2005 C 3.3 Page no 43.
In my model total no of room is 7 and the toatal area of the rooms are 92.56 Sq m
Which is greater then the value specified in the code, Hence the building is safe.
d)Wall heignt:
According to NBC 2005 Clause F- 3.4 the heights of each room should be
as per NBC
1)Habitable Room: 2.75m
2) Kitchen; 2.6m
3) Bathroom: 2.2m
4) corridor 2.1m
Inmy model all the wall are 3m heigt which is greater then the required. Hence it is save and i have followed the NBC guidlines.
e) Thickness based on firelife and safety:
Thickness of fire and life safety is provided in the table 2 in the NBC 2005.
As per the table given my wall thickness is 8.6 Inch and it is as per the standerds of the NBC guidlines.
Hence, the model is safe to use.
f)Passageway requirment:
Passageway requirements are given in table 1 in NBC 2005.
In my model passageway is according to the class given hence it is safe to use.
8) We have identified requirements for modeling from question 7, Use these numbers from code book and verify the numbers used in modeling the unit from week 2 to week 4. If the numbers are not reasonable, use the numbers obtained from the code book to create a revision of the mode.
This model resembles the actual modeling requirements for Project 1 of course work
Ans) After refering to the NBC 2005 all the standerds are matched to the statanderds to the NBC.
there is no way i need to change the values of the any other week.
hence the model is satisfied for the NBC 2005 with all the standerds.
