Hood design-Week 2
The Hood is the component that covers the engine and it can be opened to access the engine compartment for maintenance and repair. The hood is designed based on the opening tilt angle and this angle varied based on the country. Hood was supported by two components
- Gas stay
- Support rod
Based on the class A surface, the one side of the surface was offset and the inner hood was designed as shown in Figure

Inner wood was integrated with hinges and latch
Reinforced material helps to strengthen the material. The latch and Hinge are placed on the embossing as the strength will be less at these positions. The reinforced material can be seen inner side of the hood where the metals are spot welded.

Hemming joints is created as shown in Figure and the joints are should be without any intersection

Thickening the inner hood as shown in Figure

Thickening of the outer hood as shown in Figure

The complete model of the hood is shown in Figure
Deep drawing
Deep drawing is the process in which sheet metals are converted into hollow body through tensile and compression conditions. Generally, these are classified into
Deep drawing with a tool
Deep drawing with active energy
Deep drawing with active mean
Hemming
Hemming is a process in which sheet metal is folded into another object in order to achieve a tight fit.
Hemming is classified into
Convectional die hemming
Roll hemming
