Hood design-Week 2

INTRODUCTION :-

HOOD

A Hood also referred to as a bonnet. Hood is a hinged cover that rests over the engine of a front engine vehicle. Its purpose is to provide access the engine for repair and maintenance.

THEORY

Hood consists of the following parts

  • Hood outer panel
  • Hood inner panel
  • Latch and Striker reinforcement
  • Hinge reinforcement
  • Gas stay reinforcement

HOOD OUTER PANEL

The Outer panel provide the shape of the car body whereas the inner parnels reinfoecement of the shell of the body. The various curved shape are given to outer panels to provide the strength of panels.

HOOD INNER PANEL

The inner panel provides mounting location of various trim panels and connecting assemblies. The inner panel and outetr panels are welded together to pillars and rails so as to form the skeleton of car body.

LATCH

Latch is a type mechanical fastener that joins two objects or surface while allowing for their regular separation.

HINGE

Hinge is a mechanical bearing that connects two solid objects typicallyallowing only a limited angle of rotation between them.

REINFORCEMENT

Anything that increases the probability that a responce will occur.

HOOD DESIGN

HEMMING

Hemming is a forming operation. when the edges of sheet metal rolled the another part tightly. it forms defirmation . Normally, hemming operation is to connect the other parts and its improve the accuracy of the apperance.

Hemming is formed in the outer panel. it covers the inner pannel. It increase the apperance.

MASTIC

Mastic is a form of sealant or adhesive used to fill the joints or bond for different materials.

LATCH AND TRAJECTORY

Latch ios the path which the striker will follow when the hood is open or closed while pivoting on thr hinge axis.

EMBOSS

To raise the surface into bases.

CONCLUSION

In the Hood mainly considered in pedestrian safety and also passenger safety due to reduce the unwanted waste to improve the safety of car engine compartmrnt also,

Thus, the Hood design challenge to be completed and file to be attached compressed zip folder.
