Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Fender Emphasis;

• Its main purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and other road spray from being thrown into the air by a rotating tire

Wheel Arch;

• Wheel arch claddings are there to stop water and dirt ingress from getting into tight spots around the wings of the car to prevent corrosion.
• Different countries have different wheel arch regulations in place, and the wheel arch design has to comply with them to be deemed usable in that country.
• 

There are three type of wheel arch regulation;

• Japan regulation
• European regulation
• Us regulation

A given Fender Design is calculated by European regulation;

Calculation of wheel arch area according to European regulations:

• According to European standards, the fender and wheel arch should be ascertained as correct or not.
• I desingned a plane with the help of nx cad in fender design as centerof wheel plane.
• Drawn using SA,SB,SC,SD and SE lines, European control is checked using this code.

• The clearance "L" as shown in the above figure at all the five sections SA, SB, SC, SD, SE should be greater than 10mm.

1. Measuring "L" for the given wheel and fender at SA

Value of "L" in SA= 9.95mm

2. Measuring "L" for the given wheel and fender at SD

Value of "L" in SD= 2.87mm

3. Measuring "L" for the given wheel and fender at SB

Value of "L" in SB= 10mm

4. Measuring "L" for the given wheel and fender at SC

Value of "L" in SC= 0.11mm

5.Measuring "L" for the given wheel and fender at SE

Value of "L" in SE= 5.97mm

Result;

CONCLUSION:

From the above results we can conclude that the Fender does not pass the European Regulations as the minimum clearance between the fender arch wheel to the outer most wheel is 10 mm and this design does not meet the this minimum clearance so this fender design is fail for the European Regulation standard.
