Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard

WHAT IS WHEEL ARCH ?

The wheel arch is the semicircular part positioned above the wheel of a vehical. The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender. Corrosion
had occurred around the splash plate at the back of the wheel arch. The car has big, high-definition headlights that extend to the wheel arch.
this helps to avoid mud to go inside the engine compartment AT PROTECT THE CAR TO GET DAMAGE and provide good loks to car.

explaining the different fender regulations

 JAPANISH STANDARD

ACCORDING JAPAN REQUIREMENT THE DISTANCE FROM A , B ,C SHOULD BE GRATER THAN 5mm.

THE MEASUREMENT IN JAPANISH ARE DONE AT 3 POINTS ONLY.

 US STANDARDS

the measurement should be taken from every 10deg from -20 deg to 100 deg and the values should be min 5mm

EUROPEAN STANDARD

according to european requirements the distance is measured at 5 different points.

Measure CL L at sections SA-SA SB-SB SC-SC SD-SD SE-SE and produce CL check chart to validate.

At all five sections the CL L value should be greater than 10 mm to satisfy the European regulations.

✓ Wheel guard reqmt: The value of 'a' shall be more than 5 mm at a line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of axis of wheel.

so instade of giving different - different values to same car model the values should be min 10mm so that i satisfy all the standards.

why they have different requirements ?

this is because of the road condition and also due to population density at the particular country.

as in japan population density is high means speed limit will be low due to which at low speed the mud partical will spread slow so it have less distance ( 5mm) .

while in europ population density is less means speed limit will be high due to which at high speed the mud partical will spread fast so it have more distance ( 10mm ) .

Add snapshots of measurements and tabulate them

HOW I CALCULATED

first i used tthe point command to get center point of the outermost wheel .

then created datam from that point.

then i sketched the required specification according to the european standard and marked point where wheel arch and wheel line intersect.

then used measure comond to measure the distance.

Measure CL L at sections SA SB SC SD SE and produce CL check chart to validate.

sections SB-SB

CLEARANCE L at sections SB is 10 mm from wheel to wheel archer .

 sections SA-SA

CLEARANCE L at sections SA is 9.9 WHICH IS =10 mm from wheel to wheel archer.

 sections SC-SC

CLEARANCE L at sections SC is -0.11 mm from wheel to wheel archer .

NEGATIVE SIGN BECAUSE THE WHEEL ARCHER IS INSIDE WHILE THE WHEEL IS OUTSIDE

sections SD-SD

CLEARANCE L at sections SD is -2.8mm from wheel to wheel archer.

NEGATIVE SIGN BECAUSE THE WHEEL ARCHER IS INSIDE WHILE THE WHEEL IS OUTSIDE

sections SE-SE

CLEARANCE L at sections SE is -5.9mm from wheel to wheel archer .

NEGATIVE SIGN BECAUSE THE WHEEL ARCHER IS INSIDE WHILE THE WHEEL IS OUTSIDE

RESULT

conclusion

measured the distance from the wheel and the wheel arch and the reuslts  shows that the wheel arch provided to me was not suitable under european standard

so the design need to be changed .
