Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

WHEEL ARCH: -

It is an Arch shaped cavity that houses the wheel. It is so important that it protects the car's inner parts from getting damaged and protects the pedestrian from small pebbles whirled by the tire's rotation.

DIFFERENT FENDER REGULATIONS: -

For different Countries according to road conditions, there are different fender regulation these are as follow.

1) JAPAN REGULATION:-

On Japan's roads, the car moves almost at average speed and their roads are also planes so their fender and tire almost stay at a stable position. So, for the cars moving on Japan's roads the minimum clearance between Fender's outer edge and the edge of the tire should be 5 mm.

If the clearance comes as greater than 5mm then it is OK but if it comes to less than 5mm then it is not OK.

2) EUROPEAN REGULATION:-

In Europe countries the roads are not in a straight line they are almost like waves so the gap between the edge of the tire and the fender's edge is not always stable it is always changing. So, for the car moving on Europe rodes we have to maintain at least a 10 mm clearance gap between the edge of the tire and the fender's edge.

3) THE US REGULATIONS:-

The US Regulations are almost the same as the Europe regulations they also have to maintain at least a 10mm clearance gap between the edge of the tire and the fender's edge.

CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FENDER EDGE AND THE EDGE OF THE TIRE FOR DIFFERENT SECTIONS:-

Section SA-SA:-

Section SB-SB:-

Section SC-SC:-

Section SD-SD:-

Section SE-SE:-

TABLE OF CALCULATION:-

From the calculated data it is seen that the criteria are fulfilled only for two sections and for the other three sections it is failing so we have to inform the design team to change the clearance between the required surface so that our criteria will be fulfilled.
