Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Wheel Arch Analysis
The aim of this analysis is to ensure that the fender design satisfies the standards set to protect the pedestrians and engine bay.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF STANDARDS
1.JAPAN STANDARDS.
the clearance value L should not be less than 5 mm at all the conditions.

2.US STANDARDS
US regulations predefined clearance of minimum distance of 5mm to be maintained between the fender and tyre.
In this they consider the angle at every 10 degrees from the horizontal axis, start from -20 to 180 degree. We get twenty one measuring values from these points.

3.EUROPEAN STANDARDS
The clearance of minimum distance of 10mm to be maintained between the fender and tyre at the points as shown in the figure SA,SB,SC,SD and SE.

According to the European Standards, 5 points in particular positions at the outer surface of the wheel should be at a minimum distance of 10mm from the inner surface of the fender.
The below table represents the position of the points, the clearance condition and if those points satisfy the condition.

The below figures show the sketch representing the lines AA, BB, CC, DD and EE and the distance between the outermost surface of wheel and outer edge of fender.

Points AA BB DD and EE are less than 10mm from the fender surface. Hence, it is recommended that the styling corresponding to these points, be modified to achieve a 10mm clearance.
CONCLUSION:
Thus, the part cannot be applied to any country unless the wheel arch part of the styling is modified accordingly.
