Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht
Modelling and Rendering of Yacht using Solid works
Objective:
- Main objective is to get acquainted and learn how to use basic and advanced features of solidworks by modelling all parts of yacht separately and assemble all parts .
- Rendering the model using both photoview 360 and solidworks visualize to give it realistic view with sutiable envrionments
Introduction: In this project to model yacht exterior parts are created individually where we get used to many new features especially advanced surface features
Here is flow diagram of yacht is made
Part modelling : here are the parts to model
- Super structure
- Hull
- Radar
- Radar mast
- Garage door
- Front seat
- Middle seat
- Rear seat
- Propeller
Features used for modelling :
- Sketch :Sketch is 2d representation of model with respect to plane or view from outside of model . to draw a sketch there are sketch entities like line, arc ,spiline, circles etc and not only 2d sketch 3d sketches can also be made
- Offset : this tool is used when u need to model the same entity at some distance
- Extrude boss/base: Ths is used when u need to convert 2d sketch into 3d model
- Extrude cut :This is used eactly in opposite way of boss to remove matrials from 3d model
- Revolve : this feature helps in creating round objects where along with sketch u need to select the axis of revolution
- Loft boss/base :This feature helps in creating complex surfaces it combines surfaces between various cross sections of model
- Fillet : this is a feature which helps in creating round finished corners for edges even the faces can be selected
- chamfer : this is same as fillets but it doesnt provide round edges i gives sharp and fine finished edges
- split :this help in projecting an entity on other surfaces and also to split multiple faces or bodies
- Trim : this helps in removing the extra or unwanted parts of sketch
- Lofted surface:this feature helps in generating a surface by using 3d sketches or multiple edges and creating a smooth tangency between selected edgesor sketches
- Sweep surfaces: this feature helps in generating from a section curve positioned along the path
- Filled surfaces : this feature connects a surface patch with any number of sides within a boundary defined by edges or sketches
- Surface extrude : this creates a extruded face based on reference sketches
- Surface extend : this helps in extending the surfaces with one edge condition
- Surface trim : this helps to trim srucface whwere one interacts with other surface
- Delete face : this feature helps in deleting unwanted faces it has also other options like delete and patch, delete and fill
- helix : this feature helps in creating helix or spiral based on reference sketch
- and many other features like mirroring , linear pattern , shell , dome combine etc are used while modelling this parts .
Hull: A hull is watertight body which is main part of yacht with the top portion open or having a deck.at the top we will have a super structure mounting on it and shape of hull is designed according to hydrostatic conditions like accomdation , stability and load carring capacity and hydrodynamic consideration like speed power requirements and motionand behaviour in sea way the hull designing requires specific curvatre during sketching stage to avoid bad geometry.
Commands used: sketch , offset entities ,project curve ,extruded boss ,extrude cut , fillet, chamfer , split , linear pattern , circular pattern, revolved boss, knit surface , lofted surface ,extruded surface ,extend surface

Front seat: this is placed before the superstructure and this model is done on deck surface by importing the surface body
Commands used: sketch , offset entities ,project curve , fillet, chamfer , lofted surface ,extruded surface ,extend surface ,extrude cut , revolve boss, mirror ,dome , filled surface , swept surface

Middle seat: this was placed in shaded area closely behind the superstructure backdoor . this is also designed after importing hull deck surface body along with table in the middle
commands used : Sketch, offset entites, extruded boss, chamfer ,fillet , mirror, Extruded cut.

Rear seat : Rear seat was placed over the garage behind the superstructure. it is also designed after importing hull deck surface body .
commands used: sketch , offset entites, swept surface, ruled surface ,extuded surface, lofted surface, extend surface , trim surface, knit surface , extruded surface ,extruded boss ,swept boss, extruded cut, chamfer , fillet ,mirrror revolved boss.

Radar : Radar means (radio detection and ranging) .Radar is used to detect other ships and land obstacles.radar is used in identifying, tracking positioning of vessels. With the help of radar, accidents can be prevented at sea with the use of the various inherent functionalities of the radar.A radar system consists of a transmitter producing electromagnetic waves in the radio or microwaves domain, a transmitting antenna, a receiving antenna (often the same antenna is used for transmitting and receiving) and a receiver and processor to determine properties of the object(s). Radio waves (pulsed or continuous) from the transmitter reflect off the object and return to the receiver, giving information about the object's location and speed. this is located above the radar mast .
Commands used : sketch , offset ,convert entities ,extruded boss ,fillet , extruded cut , sketch driven pattern ,mirror ,split line

Proppellor: this a type of device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, that, when rotated, exerts linear thrust upon a working fluid, such as water or air. they create thrust to propel a yacht through water. Most marine propellers are screw propellers with helical blades rotating on a shaft with an approximately horizontal axis.
commands used: sketch revolved boss, lofted boss, fillet ,extruded cut, circular pattern
Radar mast : the radar mast supports the radar , anntenas, support domes and lights .this is designed after importing top surface of superstructure as interace surface
commands used: sketch , offset ,convert entities ,extruded boss ,fillet , extruded cut, revolved boss, swept boss, chamfer ,shell, dome ,project curve .

Superstructure: A superstructure is an extended construction of any building or platform that rises above the rest of the building or platform in a distinct manner. superstructure is a upward extension above the baseline. the size of this structure can have many implications in its performance.it encloses the cabin and living area of yacht. this model is done on deck surface by importing the surface body .designing requires specific curvatre during sketching stage to avoid bad geometry.
Commands used : sketch , offset entities ,convert entities , lofted surface ,extruded surface ,extend surface, ruled surface , delete face , extruded boss, extruded cut, offset surface , thicken surface ,swept boss, split line ,mirror, fill surface ,dome

Garage door: Like the outer doors in a house , garage door serves the same purpose in yacht it is located at back side of hull with hinges to open an close.
Commands used : sketch ,cut extrude ,shell, fillet ,mirror

Assembly of Yacht : after modelling all parts they were inserted to solidworks assembly tempalate and all the parts were assmebled with help of mates firstly hull was inserted and next superstructure was inserted it automatically gets mated as we modelled superstructure on deck surface body of hull in the same way front seat , rear seat ,middle seat were assmebled as these parts were also modelled on same deck surface of hull body .next garage door was assembled with help of concentric mates by selecting the hinge on hull and hole on garage door. then proppeller was inserted and coincident and concentric mates were done with shafts .same is repeated for other two shafts also. then radar mast was inserted its automatically mated as we modelled on top surface of superstructure . next radar is inserted and concentric mate was applied with pole of radar mast and hole made in between radar and also coincident mate with inner surface of hole in radar and top surface of pole thus assembly completed
As the assembly completed suitable appearences were given to all parts and decals were added wherever required (staircase ,deck surface )

Rendering :
- Rendering is aprocess of creating realistic images of photo realistic model with environment.
- this can be done in two ways
- Photoview 360
- Solidworks visualize
here in this project we used both in different enviornments and rendered and images were taken

Conclusion:
- all individual parts are modelled in solidworks
- the parts are inserted and assembled in solidworks
- Realistic images were rendered in photoview 360 and solidworks visualize
