Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
WHEEL ARCH
The wheel arch is also commonly known as wheel well. The wheel arch is a curver shape of the fender positioned above the wheel of a vehicle.
The wheel should totally under the wheel arch as it can damage pedestrian or inner parts of the vehicle.
DIFFERENT REGULATION OF WHEEL ARCH
There are different regulations as different country consideration of making a wheel arch.
- Japan Consideration:
To measure the clearence between tire, hub and fender is L.
As shown in diagram value of 'SA' at centre & 'SB' 'SC' should be more than 5mm at the line 30* forward and 50* reward respectively from the central vertical axis of wheel.
- European Consideration
The value of L should be more than 10mm if L<10 then vehicle will not pass european regulation.
As shown in diagram value of 'SA' at centre & 'SB' 'SC' 'SD' SE' should be more than 10mm at the line 30* forward and 50* reward respectively from the central vertical axis of wheel and at 150mm offset of horizontal line and 'SD' is bisecting line.

- US REGULATION
Make clearence check details on all positions fro, -100* to 100* & make th clearance check table.
All values should be greater than 5mm to satisfy the regulations.
The value of 'a' shall be more than 5mm at a line 30* forward and 50* rearward fron the central vertical axis of axis of wheel.
In this challege we need to calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.
At first we define wheel centre and create perpendicular and horizontal line and make 30* angle at forward and 50* angle at rearward and a line at a offset of 150mm of horizontal line and a line bisecting 50* and 150mm line.

| Measurement of Point | SA | SB | SC | SD | SE |
| Required Length | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Actual Length | 9.942 | 10 | 0.207 | -2.416 | -5.317 |
| Remark | FAIL | PASS | FAIL | FAIL | FAIL |
CONCLUSION:
As Per european regulation requirements the clearence at given point should be minimum 10mm or more than 10mm but in the given arch only 'SB' is 10 mm from the wheel and the rest of the points doesnt satisfy the consideration so the wheel arch cannot pass the standards the design needs to be modified.
