Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Calculate the area of the Wheel Arc for given fender model and check whether or not the area will pass the european standards

Introdutcion:

Fender:Fenders are the closer component device that is put above the road wheels of a car to protect the pedestrian and prevent the engine compartment from chipping.

Wheel Arc: The calculation of wheel arc radius is important for locating the wheel inside the fender. Because while driving, car tyres tend to hurl road duts particles into the air, such as sand, mudrocks, liquids, and so on, which can hurt pedestrians and cause problems.

There are different standards available for different reagions to compute the area of the wheel arc depending on their countries road and traffic on their cities.

1. Japan Standard

In this standarad the clearance value (L) must be grater then 5mm in all three points.

2. European Standrad

In this standarad the clearance value (L) must be grater then 10mm in all fivepoints to satisfy the european regulation.

3. U.S Standard

From -20 to 180 degrees, lines are drawn from the centre of the wheel for every 10 degrees. As a result, the clearance gap between the wheel and the fender arc should be less than 5 mm at every 10 degree angle, according to US standards.

Aim:Calculate the Wheel Arc area and prove whether the car will pass the standards or Not.

To calculate the arc area, I used the European standard.

Step 1

  1. Take a datum to the surafe of the wheel part.
  2. After that, from the centre of the wheel, draw a line 30 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right.
  3. Towrads upside, draw another line from the central horizontal line at a distance of 150mm.
  4. Plot a line between two lines using the bysector of a 150mm line.
  5. Then, using the intersection point suggestion, project a point between the arc curve and the line.
  6. After crating made a point, need to measure the distance between the fender and the wheel.

Step 2

Calculating the distance between the fender and the wheel.

When the values were compared to the European standard, the following results were found to be accurate.

Distance SA to SA SB to SB SC to SC SD to SD SE to SE
Clearance Value 9.949mm 10mm -0.11mm -2.88mm -5.99mm
Result PASS PASS Fail Fail Fail

Conclusion:

As a result, the above fender design does not meet European standards.we must conclude that just two lines, SA and SB, have good clearance values, while the remaining lines do not. we must contact the stylish team to request that the fender design be changed by submitting the input file.
