Challenge

Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Objective: To Check given Styling data as per European standards and verify the Fender Wheel Arch Gap requirements.

The main aim of this standard is to check the position of wheel from Fender , it should mostly be positioned inside the Fender to reduce stone chipping and other issues.

There are different regulations as per different regions , US , Japan and Europe Standards.

1) Japan Standard

As per Japan Standard the gap between fender and projected lines from Wheel Arch should be more than 5mm.

2) US Standard

Us Standard involves drawing lines at every 10 degree angle and checking the gap , which again should be more than 5mm

3) Europe Standard

This involves drawing two lines at 30 degree and 50 degree respectively from a normal line. And measuring the gap which needs to be more than 10mm at all points.

The procedure is as follows.

1) Draw Sketch on a plane or we can directly create lines using Curves workbench.

2) Create two reference lines Horizontal and Vertical and using these two as base draw two lines one at 30 degree and other at 50 degrees.

3) Create a Line at the edge of Wheel Arch with 150mm Length/Height , use the intersection point as reference to create another line.

4) Draw a line using angle bisector in between the two lines and measure the gap between Fender and all the points created(Projected distance)

As per the Given data all the points are below 10mm , so the Fender needs to be modified as it is not clearing the European regulations.
