AUTOMOTIVE BENCHMARKING

Benchmarking involves a structured comparison between similar products , vehicle manufacturers have to benchmark their vehicles in order to understand and to strengthen or improve the potential of their vehicles in comparison to the already existing products/Vehicles.

Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars

Based on the above Case we can infer the following details.

  1. The number of Occupants is five hence the vehicle should have good leg room especially in the second row areas.
  2. Due to Crowded traffic nature of Bangalore, a smaller vehicle is preferred however as he is fond of big cars to balance both a compact SUV is recommended.
  3. Due to higher traveling distance and daily office commute a diesel vehicle would be preferred despite the higher maintenance cost , the mileage would compensate for the same..

The following Compact SUVS are available in a budget of 8-10 Lakhs.

*Engine and Mileage Wise KIA and Mahindra have turbocharged engines with better mileage in both compared to Hyundai and Renault.

*Safety wise Mahindra XUV is the only one with a Five Star NCAP rating making it best suited among other competitors.Renault has scored 4 Star in ASEAN NCAP.

*KIA is not having Child Seat anchor points so its not recommended in this Scenario.

*Electric Tailgate Release is available in Mahindra and KIA for easy closing and opening of the tailgate which gives them a plus point over Hyundai and Renault.

*Renault has bootspace of 405 , way above Mahindra , Kia having 250 and 300 Lts respectively however reduced bootspace leads to more legroom in Mahindra.(Length of all vehicles is similar -3995mm).

*Mahindra is having higher width of 1820mm compared to others 1750mm to 1790mm which again helps in roominess.

Based on the above conclusions Mahindra XUV is recommended
