Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM: to examine the fender design to verify if the wheel arch of the fender meets the European Standards.
WHY DO WE NEED TO EXAMINE THE FENDER DESIGN TO VERIFY IF THE WHEEL ARCH OF THE FENDER MEETS THE EUROPEAN STANDARDS?
We have to examine the fender design to verify if the wheel arch of the fender meets the European Standards because when the vehicle is in motion the tyre throws more number of stones to the inner part of the car if the tyre is outside. But if the tyre was inside the fender it will throw less number of stones and others and cause less number of damage to the inner part of the car to make it less damage we have to examine the fender design if the wheel arch of the fender meets the european standards.
And any how if the tyre was inside then also it will throw stones to prevent the inner part we will use fenders and for pedestrians also.

WHAT IS FENDER?
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well . Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
or in simple words fender is a part of automotive which will protect the car from pedestrians and the stones, sand etc which will be thrown by the rotation of tyre.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF FENDERS:
There are two types of fenders are there:
1.Full bumper type
2.Half bumper type
Full bumper type: the full bumper type fenders are those which will have more material than the required material and it is most widely used in the olden days cars but now a days the OEMs are using half bumper type to reduce the cost and increse the performance of the vehicle.

Half bumper type: half bumper type fenders are the part of the automotives which will have less weight and the required material not more than that. Now a days the OEMs are using the half bumper type fenders to reduce the cost and increase the performance of the vehicle and decrease the weight of the vehicle.

Before calculating the wheel arch we will study different wheel arch regulations
DIFFERENT REGULATIONS FOR WHEEL ARCH.
EUROPEAN REGULATION:
The europen regulation is Projecting the points to the wheel arch the points must minimum be 10mm or above. And additionally we will have to take a 150mm point from the zero or horizontal line of the wheel and also in between the 150mm point and the 50o point we will also take a midpoint.and the iamge is as follows:

JAPAN REGULATION :
As per Japanese regulation, the clearance between tyre and fender must be greater than 5mm The projected points to be measured are at an angle 30° forward & 50° rearward respectively

US REGULATION :
As per US regulation, the clearance between tyre and fender must be greater than 5mm. The projected points to be measured are at an angle 0° forward to 100° respectively. Thus each position is divided into 10°. Thus the projected distances are measured at around 21 different points.

so for this project we have given the input as to calculate the wheel arch gap of european standars.
Here we have to claculate the wheel arch gap and check whether our car passes the european standard.
PROCEDURE OF PRACTICAL:
Step 1: create a datum plane one the circle using inferred option on the datum plane.

Step 2: start doing the sketch on the plane which we created.
Step 3: in the sketch first create a horizontal line from the centre of circle and a vertical line from centre of the circle
Step 4: after getting vertical and horizontal line create a line from the centre point which is 30 degree forward from the vertical and a line from the centre point which is 50 degree rearword from the vertical line

Step 5:project the outer curve of the fender and then create a point on the curve which is 150 mm above from horizontal line
Step 6: then create a line from the centre point to the new point and the create a derived line between 50degree line and the new line

Step 7:create intersecting points between the projected vcurve and the line
Step 8: exit from sketch and then project the intersecting points on the fender using bothsides option in the projection curve

Step 9: measure from intersection points of the sketch amd the projected points

CONCLUSION.
Hence The wheel arch of the fender is not matching the european standards. so we request the styling team to change the design of the fender a little bit.
