Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM : The Aim is to check the gap between Wheel and fender and whether it follows the European standerds.
THEORY
The fender should be covering the wheel.If the wheel is outside the fender it will undergoes more chipping and causes damages to the pedestrians as well as vehicle.The clearence should be provided to Fender arch area to the wheel,if the clearence value is not satisfied,is should be informed to the Styling team to change the Class A Surface

Japan Regulations of Wheel Arch

In Japan Regulations,we have to draw a horizontal line from the centre of the wheel.And draw a perpendicular line from the centre.Draw a line 30 degree inclined to the left side and draw a line 50 degree inclined to the right side.Project this line to the top view as shown in the above figure.Measure the L value.That will be our clearence value.The clearence value should be greater than the 5mm.
European Rule

There are little modifications in the European rule than the Japan Regulations.150 mm should be taken from the horizontal line.A line should be drawn from the origin which will passes through the offset 150mm.The line SD should be drawn which bisects the SC and SE.The clearence value obtained here is should be equal to or greater thean the 10mm.
Drawing and Calculations

SB

L=10mm
SA

L=9.94mm
SC

L=0.112mm
SD

L=2.862mm
SE

L=5.9409mm
A at 30 degree

a=49.78
A at 50 degree

a=38.63
From this,it is clear that this Fender willnot pass the European regulations.
