Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

Aim:To create the core and cavity blocks of switch Bezel

First Let's know about the Parting line and the Parting surface

Parting line and Parting surface :

A parting line, in the industrial casting of molds, is the borderline in which draft angles change direction. That is, it is the dividing line that splits the core and cavity halves of a molded part. It is sometimes a starting point for the mold parting surface.

Here intersecting the parting surface, core, and cavity across the ZX plane gives the intersecting line that tells the parting line.

Parting surface:

The parting surface of a mould are those surfaces of both mould plates adjacent to the impressions which butt together to form a seal and prevent the loss of plastic material from the impression. The parting surfaces of a mould are those portion of both
mould plates, adjacent to the impressions, which butt together to form a seal and prevent the loss of plastic material from the impression.

We have final output of the Switch Bezel like this.

Firstly take the Class A surface and Extrapolate

Trim with the Sweep surface

Unhide the B surface, take the intersection between the A+C surface and the B surface, that is our parting line.

For enabling the Parting surface, split with trim B surface with the intersection that we made (Parting line)

Inorder to make the core and cavity block

  • First make the positioned sketch on the top plane
  • Create a rectangle that covering the Switch Bazel
  • Extrude the with top and bottom
  • Trim it with respective side(Should be done seperately for the core and cavity)
  • And fill the top surface of both core and cavity by creating the boundary
  • Make it as a seperate body for the Core and Cavity
  • Transalte the body about 40mm in positive and negative direction (Seperately should done for both cavity and core.
