Fender Design Challenge

AIM :- designing of fender For the Sill, Bumper, Baffle(Splash), and A-Pillar mount area.

What is a car fender ?

Fender is term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

Why Fenders Are So Important As Auto Body Parts?

There are quite a few auto body parts, even if they do not seem obvious to you. For starters, there are bumpers and the hood, which everybody knows. They steal the show most of the time. But when you go around the car there are some other parts as well.What come to your mind? Maybe the grille, which can also be an accent piece. What about the doors and the mirrors? They are not so obvious, but you can still see them. However, today we are going to focus on the fenders. They are often neglected, unless you see damage to them. The sad part is that the damage could just be indicative of a problem that has been going on for much longer.

Types of fender

In recent car we use half bumper type because in full bumper type takes lot of space which cause more sheet where as in that same space we can make 2 fender at the same type which is called craft management.

This is because every inch of the sheet metal is a cost. Due to using of half bumper type the weight of the vehicle is also decrease which will initially increase vehicle speed.

Manufacturing process for car fender ?

The first step: open straight snips plate: first select applicable cold coiling specification, cold coiling is opened flat; Then according to production material specification, will open cold coiling after flat and be cut into into the iron plate of corresponding size; Finally the iron plate after shear is cleaned to iron filings;

Second step: oil pressure, punch press: first iron plate is extended; Secondly to its trimming and punching; Then to its flanging and shaping; Finally after shaping completes, then carry out one-off hole-piercing; Completed the making of lappet plate body;

The 3rd step: the 1# smallclothes of processing lappet: first iron plate is stamped out to required outline blank (blanking); Then to completing the further moulding of iron plate of outline blank; Finally it is carried out to punching;

The 4th step: panel beating assembly welding: first 1# smallclothes are carried out to spot welding M6 nut; Then 1# part point is welded on lappet; Finally lappet body and 1# smallclothes are carried out to sanding thorn and ending.

As preferably, the trimming of described second step, punching can replace by Radium art.

As preferably, the flanging of described second step, shaping can be replaced by punch press punching, steel seal technology generations.

Master section to create the Drip Area

important area to design fender

  • drip area
  • bumper mounting area
  • sill mounting area
  • baffel mounting area
  • pillar mounting area

all the holes drilled are of 5mm are there is 10mm of clearance from the holes.

drip area

this area is very important part of the fender which requires perticular dimension.

with perticular angels and distance this is because hood is going to rest on that area and it should be easy while opening and closing of the hood.

the inner part of the engine should be not seen thats why this angels are also created.

pillar mounting area

this mounting point is created on fender to attach it with the windshield part.

bumper mounting area

this mountning area is created to mount it with bumper area. a dart is provided to increase ithe strength of that area.

sill mounting area

this area is created to at the bottom of the fender to attach it with sill area of the car.

baffel mounting area

this type is mounting does not requires to create an emboss direct hole is given because it is inner side of the fender.this part is bolt with the plastic region of the car.

overall view

CONCLUSION :-

hence i had designed the fender provider with the proper dimension as given in the master section , understand good using of the NX CAD software.
