Fender Design Challenge
OBJECTIVE
To design the fender of a car along with drip area, sill mount, bumper mount and A-Pillar mount with the given master section.
DESCRIPTION
Fender is the part of the vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
More elaborate designs include fender skirts for enclosing the outside edge of the wheel well and stylized pontoon fenders for exposed femders. The two types of fenders are 1) Full Bumper type 2) Half Bumper Type
The fender has five important mountings. Using the given master section the the fender and its mountings are desgined as follows.

Figure 1. Master Section
1) Drip Mounting
This mounting connects the fender and the engine compartment. Drip area should have a minimum distance of 200 mm from the rear to make space for the cowl top. And from the the front a distance of 150 mm to be maintained for the head lamp and its housing unit. The legth of the drip area depends on the fender but the front and rear clearance are to be maintained.

2) Sill mounting
This mounting is at the bottom of the door supporting floor. The sill inner cover, covers the fastners.

3) A-Pillar mounting
A-pillar mounting are on the sides of the fender near the cowl top part and are covered by the side view mirrors.

4) Splash mounting
Splash mounting prevents the chipping materials, dust and dirt from entering into the engine and also protects the pedestrians from incoming stones on the roads

5) Bumper mouning
Fastners are used to mount the bumper mounting and darts are added to add strength to the structure during vibrations.

CONCLUSION
The fender has been designed using Siemens Nx for a thickness of 0.75 mm according to the safety regulations with the necessary mountings.
