Fender Design Challenge
DESIGN OF CAR FENDER
- The fender is the structure that extends between front door and front bumper, providing necessary protection for front wheels.
- For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
- Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground.

TYPES OF FENDER:
- Full bumper type.
- Half bumper type.
MATERIAL USED IN FENDER DESIGN:
We can find modern fenders made from steel, aluminum, thermoplastic, and fiberglass. Steel is the most rigid and abrasion-resistant material used in making fenders. They offer the best protection from large debris and are less likely to dent. Aluminum offers the strength of metal without the heaviness of steel.
FRONT FENDER DESIGN:
The given Master section to create the Drip Area and For the Sill mount, Bumper Mount and A-Pillar mount create your own design according to the Engineering standard.

A] Drip area:
Darts are added on the longer side of the drip area in order to provide the stiffness and add strength to the part. It Play a main role by avoiding vibration and forces from outside. Embossing are provided on the mounting to strengthen them during fastening.

B] Sill area:
Sill is the panel directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body. The bottom end of the fender is mounted on the sill body for reinforcement of the fender.

C] Bumper mount:
Bumper mounting area is to fix the bumper to the fender with the help of the fasteners or equivalent nuts.

D] A-Pillar mount:
This is a structural pillar that combines the body to the roof. It makes the sides of the windshield at rest and front fenders are fastened.

E] Baffle mounting:
Baffle mounting or mudguard are clip fit type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the Tire. It protects the car engine compartment and pedestrians from causing injuries from chip out debris on the road when the car is in motion. They are mounted on the fender using locking clips.
