Fender Design Challenge
WAHT IS FENDER:-
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile,motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well.Its primary purpose is to prevent sand,mud,rocks,liquids and other road spreay from being thrown in the air by the rotating tyre.
MOUNTING ON FENDER:-
1) Drip Mounting
2) Body Mounting
3) Sill Mounting
4) Bumper Mounting
5) Baffle/Flash mounting
DRIP MOUNTING:-
Drip area is the region where fender come in contact with the engine compartment. We have leaved some gap on the front and rear end of the fender.The gap on the rear end is for the wiper motor and its instrument which is about 200 mm which comes with the cowl top part and the gap on the front end which is about 150 mm is for the housing of the head lamp.
BODY MOUNTING:-
It is the part which connect the fender to the main car body.It is designed first by trimming the the excess part of the fender skin flange then the remaining flange is extendedand then hole are made for mountingand also embossing is given for strenthning the flage.
SEAL MOUNTING:-
It is use to seal the car body by using fasteners. It is designed by law extention and embossing is provided on it for strengthning it
BAFFLE(SPLASH) MOUNTING:-
It is use to guarde the engine from hitting of the stone,chips or mud also to protect the pedestrian from the attack of small stones leaved from tyre.
BUMPER MOUNTING:-
Bumper is mounted on the front side of the car which is connected to the fender by fastners.Dart is provide on it to minimise the vibration and embossing i s given for strengthning purpose.
DESIGN PARAMETERS:-
We have only provided the master section of Drip area so the design parameter related with the drip area are as follow
- The front end of fender and rear end of fender is kept with some space for mounting such as Head Lamp Housing and Wiper motor and its instrument.
- A 3 degree opening is given to the fender for drawing and production purpose which goes 9mm deep inside.
- After that a 8mm flange at an angle of 40 degree from the horizontal is provided so that human eye can not protude inside.
- After that a vertical flange of about 25 mm is provided and connected to it a horizontal flange about 35 mm is also provided.
- At the end embossing is provide for strenthning purpose.
