Fender Design Challenge
Fender Design Challenge
Aim: Design the fender as per the given skin model, and provides the proper space & position for the dip, bmper, pillar, and sill mounting areas.
Comment based on the objective:
FENDER:
A fender is an automotive component that protects and frames a vehicle's wheels and keeps mud from splashing them. Fenders are seen on the front wheels of the majority of modern cars. Fenders are mounted on the sides of the vehicle and frame the wheel well to keep objects from being thrown into the air by rotating wheels. Its purpose is to safeguard the tyres from kicking up mud, gravel, and other road debris. If there was nothing covering the wheels, the rotating tyres would kick up all kinds of debris. The fender not only protects your automobile from road debris, but it also stops this debris from being thrown up at other vehicles or pedestrians on the road. This is why cars with massive, oversized tyres are frequently required by law to have fender flares installed.
Type of Bumper
Full bumper type:
In the present time, this type is not much used in the industry, because it required more material, more wight and large scrap.

Half bumper type:
This type are used in the present car, because it required less material, and small blank size with very less scrap as compared with full bumper type.

Area to be considered for designing a fender
Drip area
Bumper mounting area
Sill mounting area
Body mounting area
Designed Fender as per the given data

Drip area
The area through which the fender is attached to the engine compartment using the fasteners. While the designing, it is must to consider the necessery design parameter for drip area such as: 200 mm clearence from back side of the fender for cowl mounting area and 150 mm clearence from front for the head lamp housing unit.

Pillar Area
The piller is provided on the both side of the front windshield which is the reason the windshield in the place.

Bumper mounting area
In this mounting the fender connecs with the bumper. It must be very rigid. To make it more rigid, two dart was provided.
Sill mount
This area is the bottom part of the fender, in the below figure marked with the yellow line.

Baffle mount

Conclusions:
The fender model is created by considering all the parameter with a thickness of 0.75mm with the given mounts and embosses.
