Fender Design Challenge

ABSTRACT:

To calculate the wheel arch of the Front Fender of a car by using the various parameters available to us.

INTRODUCTION:

Front fender is the part that extends between the front door to the front bumper covering front wheels of the of the vehicle. The major function of the Front Fender is to give an aesthetic look as well as to protect the engine compartment of the vehicle.

TYPES:

  • Full Bumper Type
  • Half Bumper Type

Full Bumper Type:

It is an old method which isn’t used anymore as it is heavy and occupies a bigger space.

Half Bumper Type:

The most used type where it is only half in size and very easy to replace.

We are going to be designing the Half Bumper type as it is the most cost effective and easily available part, it helps in reduction of material usage and reduction of cost and do the same function as the Full Bumper type.

PARTS

  1. Drip area
  2. Bumper Mount area
  3. Sil Mount area
  4. BodySil Mount

1.Drip Area

The drip area is made as per the required dimension mentioned above,

A Emboss is created and holes are given for the application of mounting, Darts are applied in three parts for a more sturdy bracket as the drip area will be weak in particular areas.

2. Bumper Mount Area

The body mount area doesnt require much calculations as compared to the Drip area, so basic features are used to create it.

This is where the Wheel arch is placed , ie the Baffle area for the wheel arch.

3. Sil Mount Area

Similar features were used to create it, Emboss and edge blend.

4. Body Mount Area

Giving Draft angles and Fillets

Emboss and egde blends.

Now Thicken was given to the whole Front Fender, the value of thicken is 0.65mm.
