BIW FRONT FENDER
TITLE OF THE PROJECT:- FRONT FENDER OF CAR
OBJECTIVE: - To design BIW front fender of car and all it’s mounting to attach it to main body.
INTRODUCTION:-
Fender is an English term for the part of an automobile that frames a wheel well. Its primary work is to prevent rock, sand, mud, liquids and other road spray from being thrown into air by the motion of the wheel which may cause injuries to the pedestrian. Most passenger automobiles have four fenders, one over each wheels.

Types of fender:-
- Full bumper side:- As shown in the figure below, we can see that when the fender goes till the bumper area that type of fender is called Full bumper side.

- Half bumper side:- Half bumper are highly preferred in these days car because it same material cost. We can see half bumper in the below figure.

Mounting area in fender:-
- Drip
- Sill
- Cowl
- A-pillar or side door
- Bumper
DESIGN METHODLOGY:-

- As we get our styling surface from our styling team we start our work.
- We got fender skin with flanges on it.
- We will try to remove all the extra flanges which are other then sill, drip, bumper, cowl and side door using trim surface by creating curve surface on the face.
DRIP AREA
- Now comes the most important area which needs to be designed, Drip area as it help our fender to connect with the engine compartment.
- Designing drip area with some random dimensions may cause NVH issues and when vehicle moves with certain speed which causes spring-back effect which is not good for any company.
- These things can be improved by designing the drip area with help of master-section. Master-section provides details of drip area only. For sill, bumper, side door will be done according to engineering standards.
- After creating the drip area and holes ,we provide embosses and dart to increase the strength and stiffness of drip locally.

SILL AREA
- Sill is the bottom area of car body where lower portion of door comes in contact.
- Extra flanges present which were cleaned and holes were created for the attachment.
- Embosses where provided to increase the stiffness of the sill mounting area.
BUMPER AREA
- Bumper area is that region where our fender will get attached to bumper as it named.
- Holes were created on the extended flange using sketch on the primary plane and projecting the sketch.
- Trim the hole using trim sheet and create embosses to provide stiffness.
- We also provide dart to provide strength.

COWL AREA
- Cowl mounting was designed to fit a splash which helps the engine compartment to protect it from the dust, mud, rock entering into it. It also improves the NVH of the car.
- Extra flanges were cleaned up and holes were created to attach the splash.

SIDE DOOR MOUNTING:-
- As we do not have flanges at that region for side door we will create one using law extension.
- Holes were created for the attachment.
- All holes created in the fender is of same diameter.

ORIENTATION OF FRONT FENDER:-

CONCLUSION:-
This BIW front fender was designed with all mounting region like drip, cowl, sill, bumper and side door which follows engineering standards specially drip area.
