Fender Design Challenge

Introduction :

In each car there are various parts that are assembled to form a complete structure. Every part is assigned with different functions. Here I have design Front fender and its mounting. Front fender is located just above the front wheel.

Master Section :

The first section's side view of the fender is showing the dimension about the drip area, the main thing to notice here is that its says maximum length between the engine compartment and the fender must be 10mm. Similarly for drip area the total distance from the pillar mount area must be 300mm or less than 300mm, whereas from front the total distance is 150mm.

There are two types of fenders available: half fender and full fender, full fender was being used earlier but nowadays to minimize the material usage and its costing half fender is used.

                                                                                       Half Fender                                            Full Fender

It’s function

  • It is designed to act like a shield which helps the pedestrian from getting hit off the stone, debric or any obstacle.
  • It also helps to cover the engine and also helps to reduce the noise coming from the engine.

In fender, there are generally 5 mounting areas, these areas follows:

  • Drip mount area
  • Sill mount area
  • Bumper mount area
  • A-pillar mount area
  • Baffle mount area

Drip Area : It's an area which connects the fender to the front engine compartment. The total distance from the pillar mount area must be 300mm or less than 300mm, whereas from front the total distance is 150mm.

Sill mount Area : It's the mounting area that helps to mount the fender with the bottom of the rocker panel.

A- pillar mount area : It is situated at the top of the cowl where it fastened with it.

Bumper mount area : It is the mounting area which helps to reduce the vibration produced by the engine.

Baffle Mount Area : This mounting area is between the engine compartment and the wheel. The main purpose of the mounting is to prevent any debris entering the engine compartment.
