Fender Design Challenge
FENDER DESIGN:
What is Fender?
Fender is a primary casing made of alumium or steel whose primary purpose is to prevent the mud, rocks, liquid spray and foreign particles entering inside the engine room caused by the rotating tyre.
Types:
- Full Bumper Type
- Half Bumper Type
Here, I have designed Half Bumper Type Fender which uses less sheet metal and will cost less.

Mountings in Fenders:
- 'A' Pillar Mounting
- Bumper Mounting
- Drip Area Mounting
- Baffle Mounting
- Sill Mounting
Master Section to be Used:

Tool Work Area (Less Than 40mm):
The tool which used to punch in the manufacturing process has to go inside the car components in order to finish the process like punching, drilling etc., Hence a minimum of 40 mm or less should be given depth considered. The image has less than 40mm and satisfies my design.

Relief:
Relief were given to the respective flanges to prevent chipping of materials.

Dart or Ribs:
The dart feature is used incase of surfacing to strengthen the component and prevent spring back effect in sheet metal components.

Drip Area Specifications:
The drip area mountings should be 150mm distance from the bumper mounting and should be less han 300mm in distance from the 'A' Pillar mounting. Images were given as reference.

CONCLUSION:
Hence by using the skin data of fender. The mountings, Design specifications and other important considerations were made successfully by using NX CAD Software and satisfied the master section.
