Fender Design Arch Challenge
Fender Design - Wheel Arch
Aim: Calculate the Wheel Arc area and prove whether the car will pass the standards or Not.
Wheel Arch
The wheel arch is designed considering all possible motions the tire undergoes while the vehicle is in motion. The wheel arch also ensures stopping any debris that could possibly fly outside the wheel well and hit pedestrians.
-
The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender.
-
Corrosion had occurred around the splash plate at the back of the wheel arch.
-
The car has big, high-definition headlights that extend to the wheel arch.

Calculate the Wheel Arc area and prove whether the car will pass the standards or Not.

European requirements
To measure the Clearance between tire, hub, & fender is L
The value of L should be more than IOrnm if L < 10 then the vehicle will not pass under European regulation
AS shown in the above diagram value of 'SA' at center & 'SB', 'SC' should be more than 10rnm at line 30* forward and
50* reward from the central vertical axis of the wheel. Here we have made another 2 points to be measured that will be SD
& SE is also more than 10mm
Obtaining Results
First of all, we have to understand the European Regulation requirements
First, we define the wheel center and create a perpendicular line, and project a vertical line to the top view this point will be 'A'.
Then to find point B we make 30* angle to forward and 50* reward, at 150mm offset of horizontal line then mark SD
and SE points

The sketch is drawn on the wheel face as per the European standards provided and projected on the wheel arch at
sections SA, SB, SC, SD, and SE to measure "L", "a", and wheel arch area.
A. Obtaining Clearance value between Fender Wheel arch and Wheel

- The value of "L" at SB = 10.000 mm
- The value of "L" at SA = 9.9490 mm
- The value of "L" at SD = 0.1139 mm
- The value of "L" at SC = 2.8875 mm
- The value of "L" at SE = 5.9973 mm

From the above table,
the given fender design does not pass European standards for wheel arch area at SA, SD, SC, SE.
Conclusion:
From the above-obtained result, we concluded that this fender design does not pass European standards of wheel arch so we give this detailed report to the A styling surface team and suggest they modify this fender design.
