Fender Design
DESIGN OF CAR FENDER
FENDER :
Fender is part in automobile that frames a wheel .
It is the process to prevent sand , mud .rocks and road sprays that is thrown into air by rotating tire .
Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
Fenders are rigid bodies but when contacted with Road it gets damged. Image is given as Example..
TYPES OF FENDER
- Full Bumper type
- Half Bumper type
DATA GIVEN : ( Master Section for Drip Area )
INPUT FROM STYLING TEAM :
MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
Fendor is made by reaction injection molding (RIM). RIM is a process that conserves raw materials and reduces costs. It is similar to injection molding, But here we use thermosetting polymers. This requires a curing reaction to occur within the mold. Common items made via RIM are automotive bumpers, air spoilers, and fenders.
FENDER MOUNTING AREAS :
- Bumper
- Drip
- A Pillar
- Sill
- Cowl
Drip Area Mounting:
Drip area mounting is the part which connects the fender with the engine compartment. We use fasteners for joining the component. Designing the drip area has few constraints that there must be enough space at the front and rear end of the fender. And while Designing the end of Drip Area should be 10 mm apart for the Engine Part.
Here Drip Area is Created as per Master Section Given.

Sill Mounting:
Sill Mounting is used to link the fender with the sill. Sill is the under side portion of the door.

Bumper Mounting:
This Mounting connects the fender with the bumper. Bumpers are mostly made up of plastics. It is forms the front end of the car. During collision bumper hits first. Fasteners are used to fit the portions. So we provide holes here.

A Pillar Mounting:
This connects the fender with the A Pillar. A Pillar is the structure that combines body with the roof. This is the reason for windshield is in place. It is fitted with Fasteners and those will be kept out of human vision.

COWL MOUNTING :
It protects the car tyre debris entering into the engine compartment. This mounting is given as holes that holds the cover in place. This plastic cover restricts small rocks, sand and mud splashing into the car.

So , These Are the Five Mountings created by giving Embosses and Fastener reliefs for fendor.
And Dart and Bled are given to strenthen the Part & It is Thickened to 0.75 mm.
