Fender Design

Fender is a automotive part and that fits a wheel well also its primary job is to protect engine compartment and pedestrians  from sand, mud, rocks and liquids that thrown by rotating tire into the air or engine compartment. This is becauase when wheel rotate causes hurl up the stones and liquid in all direction. fenders are usually there to prevent any injuries to pedestrian from moving particles.

Type of fenders:-

1.Half Bumper type fender In comparision with full bumper type fender it has less weight and less weight has an advantage of increase mileage

2. Full Bumper type fender:-

the die used to make a full bumper type is a very big and have lot of wastes so to reduce wastes we use Half bumper type instead of  full bumper type because in slightly increase in a die we can make two half bumper type fender also reducing material uses.

Now a days only half fender type is used instead of full type fender

There are 5 mounting points in fender

1.BODY

2.A PILLAR

3.SILL

4.COWL

5. DRIP

All the area where the mounting of fender is shown in below pic

The design procedure for fender mounting area as shown below

Design requirements for fender and mounting areas as below:-

1. The draft angle between Hood and fenderr is minimum 3 degree. This draft angle is also important for die manufacturing for easy drawing after sheet operation

2.Emboss is also provided for providing strength also edge blend and relief provided  to minimize stress concentration and sudden change in force causes failure

3.While designing Drip area 150mm Gap is provided for head light housing and also providing enough clearance about 200mm between inner hood and drip mounting location for tool workability.

Conclusion:-All the mounting area are design as per manufacturing requirement and also considered all factors for crash analysis draft is provided also and emboss for provide strength to fender mounting area and Thickness providing is 0.75 mm
