Fender Design

Aim,

To design a front fender of a car by following the given master section as per the design considerations provided.

Fender

It is an aesthetic component/part of a car that frames the wheels. Prevention of sand,  mud particles, and other road contaminants from being thrown into the engine compartment and also to the pedestrians by the rotating tires are the main purpose served by the fenders.

Types of fenders

1)Full bumper type.

2)Half bumper type.

Manufacturing of fenders involves these fenders

1)Bending

2)Cutting and blanking

3)Embossing.

Mounting regions of fender in car

1)A-pillar mounting

2)Baffle mounting

3)Sill mounting

4)Bumper mounting

5)Drip mounting.

1)A-pillar mounting

i)The A-pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body with the roof, this makes the sides of the windshield rest .

ii)The mounting position is created for attaching the fender to A Pillar of the vehicle.

iii)Usually fasteners are used for fastening to the A-pillar.

2)Baffle mounting

i)It is mounted on the inner side of the fender arch over the Tyre.

ii)The mounting points are created for attaching plastic components i.e baffle which prevents chipping inside the engine compartment.

3)Sill mounting

i)It is is created on the bottom portion of the fender for attaching to the sill.

ii)The sill mounting position is designed with holes and emboss.

4)Bumper mounting

i)The mounting point is created for attaching the bumper to the fender.

ii)It should have enough strength to withstand the bumper.

5)Drip mounting

i) It is connected with the engine compartment ,therefore the lot of design constraints are to be followed while designing the fender.

ii)Cowl top part consists pf wiper motor and its instruments.

iii)Embossing are provided on the mounting to strengthen them during fastening.
