Fender Design

DESIGN OF CAR FENDER

Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

Fender is one of the styling components which is exposed to customer front which cannot be welded. Most of the assembling joining is done using fasteners, retainer clips and proper fitting.

Fenders are either made of steel or thermoplastics.

TYPES OF FENDER

Full Bumper type

These are the fenders that cover the entire wheel of a vehicle and mainly it is used in earlier manufacturing as shown in the figure below.

Half Bumper type

This fender is also the same as the above but with slight modifications by putting the cost and weight into considerations is changes were implemented and made the fender aesthetically good as shown in the figure below.

MOUNTING

  • Bumper
  • Drip
  • A Pillar
  • Sill
  • Baffel

MANUFACTURING PROCESS:

1.As per the design plan for tools to make ready the product for assembly.

  1. Snipping or blanking operation should be done for taking the piece of a sheet from the long rolled one.

3.Bending and re striking are performed to get the desired shape.

  1. trimming is performed to trim the unwanted sections from the working sheet.

5.piercing should be performed to make the required holes on the sheet.

6.Embosses are created by doing the deep drawing by considering the good draft angle.

Burring is the process of clearing the burrs and edges like sharp corners after operations.
