Fender Design

AIM

To design the fender as per the mastersection apllying the design rules

INTRODUCTION

  • The Fender is the US English term for the part of an automobile that frames the wheel.
  • The primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids etc

There are two types of Fender

We are generally using the Half Bumper type.Because we have high possibility to reduce the scrap.Comparing to the full bumper type,we can produce two fenders at the sametime.

As shown in the above figure, while we using the Half Bumper, the material wage can be minimized, material weight can be minimized and thus we can increase the performance of the vehicle.

MOUNTING

There are 5 mounting regions on the fender , they are

  • A- pillar mounting
  • Body mounting
  • Sill mounting
  • Bumper mounting
  • Drip mounting

DESIGN RULES/CONSIDERATIONS TO BE FOLLOWED

This is the mastersection provided

  • Thickness of the surface = 0.75mm
  • Fillet radius = 2.5mm
  • Depth of the Emboss = 3.5mm
  • In Drip area the front clearence should be provided 150mm for head lamp housing unit and Rear clearence should be provided 200mm for cowel top part carrying the wiper motor
  • The 7 mm is projected shown in below figure. There is a gap between the hood region and fender region. So,when the customer is looking through the gap the fasterners should not be visible
