Fender Design
> What is a Fender?
The fender is an enclosing outer member panel of an automobile located just above the wheels. Its main function is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other particles from chipping inside the engine compartment as well as prevent the projection of these materials from the tyre onto pedestrians to some extent.

FENDER
>Types of Fender.
- Full Bumper type
- Half Bumper type
In full bumper type, the fender is designed a little more toward the bumper, covering more wheel and bumper area. these types of fenders are now not used as they require bigger size blanks to produce the part as well as unwanted material and maintenance is more which affects the performance of the vehicle.

FULL BUMPER TYRE
Half bumper-type fenders are smaller in comparison to full bumper-type thus they require smaller blanks resulting in an increase in productivity and performance. Modern cars are all fitted with half bumper-type fenders

HALF BUMPER TYPE
> Designing considerations of Fender
while designing the fender following mounting location areas are to be considered.
- Drip area
- Bumper mounting area
- Sill mounting area
- A pillar mounting area
- Baffle mounting area
Let's design the fender with the help of the master section of the drip area provided on the fender skin provided.
1. Drip area.
It is an important area of the fender which is attached to the engine compartment of the vehicle. It is mounted with the help of weld nuts. A min of 150mm distance is kept from the front side and a distance of 300mm or less can be kept on the rear side which is with respect to the cowl and headlamp mounting space. The drip area from the top of the fender should be less than 40 mm to avoid the spring-back effect during manufacturing. and the edges should be 10mm away from all the other components around the engine compartment.

DRIP AREA MOUNTING
2. Bumper Mounting area
It is the area where the fender connects with the bumper and is provided with holes for the mounting of the bumper with fasteners.

BUMPER MOUNTING AREA
3. Sill Mounting area
It is the bottom end of the fender which is mounted directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor with the help of fasteners.

SILL MOUNTING AREA
4. A pillar Mounting Area.
A pillar is a front supporting member of the roof the base of the pillar comes in contact with the fender where it is mounted with the help of fasteners.

A PILLAR MOUNTING AREA
5. Baffle mounting area.
It is the region on the wheel arch section of the fender where it is mounted for splash resistance, three points are provided from the arc coverage. They are also mounted with the help of fasteners.
