Fender Design

The fender is a curved part which generally lies under the hood assembly and acts as a wheel top cover, its purpose is to protect pedestrians from getting affected by mud, stones, water splash and road debris which would affect by the rotation of the wheel at high speed. Hence we can say it is a housing which keeps road debris contained. If there is no fender the debris would hit/affect the vehicle and pedestrians.

Type of Front fenders

  1. Full bumper type- This type of fender was used in old car models. Nowadays generally we would not see such a type because of higher cost and weight.

  1. Half bumper type- This type of fender is used in the latest car models as it is compact in size and lightweight, as compared to the full bumper type by increasing smaller blank size we would manufacture two half bumper type fenders.

The fender contains 5 mounting areas and is shown in the image below.

Types of fenders mounting area

1. A-Pillar Mounting- It connects the fender to A-pillar.

2. Drip Area Mounting- It is the major mounting area and it is used to release the water and liquid to avoid continued contact.

3. Bumper Mounting- It provides a connection between the fender and the bumper.

4. Baffle Mounting- It connects fenders to baffles, preventing popping out of road debris. Baffle is made up of rubber, plastic or metal.

5. Sill Mounting- It connects the BIW sill and fender.

Conclusion- Hence, by the given class A surface all the mountings have been designed by using design parameters for proper fitment of the front fender.
