Fender Design
FENDER DESIGN
AIM ; The aim of the project is to design the front fender of a car using NX CAD software by following the design consideration as per the industrial standards.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the project is to design the drip area , sill mount area , , and design the bumoer mount and A- pillar mount region of the fender. And give the appropriate thickness for the fender.
INTRODUCTION
FENDER
The front fender is a part of the vehicle that frames the wheel , the primary function of the fender is to prevent sand , mud, rock etc from being thrown away into air by rotating tire. Mainly the fenders are of two types , full bumper type and half bumper type , nowadays half bumper type are mainly used in the industries because of its advantages , in the full bumper type the wastage of sheet metal is comparatively high compared to the half bumper type, so the cost of production is high for the full bumper type fenders. This also helps the reduction of scrap. That is what called the scrap management
In half bumper type we reduse the usage of steel material and uses lot of plastic on the bumper which in term decreases the cars weight and increase the perfomance.

PURPOSE OF FENDER
CLEANILINESS ; Protect the car occupants and passenger by from items ,water ,mud , snow , ice , thrown off the tires as you drive.
SAFETY ; Protects pedestrian from the streaming items from being wrapped up in a rolling wheel.
AERODYNAMICS ; Smooths the car profile so you dont get a lot off the uncovered wheels
GENERAL APPEARENCE
DESIGN OF FRONT FENDER
The various mountings of the front fender are the following, mainly there are 5 mounting positions with respect to the other components and they are the following
- Drip area mounting
- A-pillar mounting
- Bumper mounting
- Baffle mounting
- sill mounting
The drip area mountings are created as per the master section given and rest of the mountings are created by assuming the appropriate position with the respected components.

DESIGN OF DRIP AREA MOUNTING
- It is the important mounting unit of a fender , it is connected with the engine compartment ,therefore lot of design consideration we want to follow
- The drip area should be designed in such a way that it should be atleast 150 mm away from the front of the fender to have sufficient space for the headlamp mounting.
- we want leave 200 mm in the rear end of the fender to have sufficient space for the cowl.
- The length of the drip area should be designed respective to the length of the fender.
- Drip area is designed as per the master section shown above.

DESIGN OF A-PILLAR MOUNTING
- The A -pillar mounting is created for attaching the fender to A pillar of the vehicle
- The mounting has to created by taking the reference from the A - pillar
- While designing the A pillar mounting we want to maintain the proper clearence for the easy mounting of the wiper equipment.

DESIGN OF BUMPER MOUNTING
- This mounting is used to fix the plastic bumper to the fender with the help of fastners , it should have the sufficient strength to hang the bumper

DESIGN OF BAFFLE MOUNTING AREA
Baffle mounting are fit type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the tirre, the function of the baffle is to protect the pedestrian and engine compartment from causing injuries from chip out debris on the road when the car is in motion, They are mainly mounted on the fender using push pin or some clips.

DESIGN OF SILL MOUNTING AREA
- Sill is the panel directly be;ow the bottom the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body

APPLYING THE THICKNESS TO THE FENDER
Here the thickness given to the mounting is 0.75 mm inward.
RESULT

CONCLUSION
Finally fender is designed as per the industrial standards.
