Door Arm Rest Week 8 Challenge

AIM : To crearte the soid door arm rest and to perform draft analysis on it.

PROCEDURE: Here Class A surface which is given to me is shown below.

Now from the above given surface, i have to create the solid component creating the class B and class C surface. So first i will create the tooling axis.

The created tree structure of the entire model is shown below:

TOOLING AXIS- The tooling is defined as the direction in which the mold opens or core & cavity opens and closes. The selection of the correct tooling axis is important to ensure the component is taken out perfectly and also the cost of the component should be less.

I will start creating the tooling axis by inserting the geometrical set and named it has tooling axis. The first step in creating the correct tooling axis is to analyze the given surface and to try some trial and error methods which can clear the draft analysis.Draft analysis is a technique to analyse whether the component created here is manufacturable or not.So here i will provide the direction in which the component should be ejected to get the easy removal and that direction is called tooling axis.So here by trial and error methods , i assumed that by creating the line normal to the surface as shown below can clear the draft analysis. The both draft analysis and the tooling axis for the given surface are as follows:

TOOLING AXIS:

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

CLASS B SURFACE- It is a surface that gives thickness from class A surface. All the supporting features of the component will be formed on the surface only.So we can say that class B is an engineering surface and class A is an aesthethic surface.

For creating the B surface first i will insert a geometrical set and name it as class B surface.Firstly the faces required for the B surface ahs to be extracted and the surfaces has to be untrimmed accordingly by comparing this to the A surface to get the required shape, finally trim the extrapolated surfaces after offsetting it to the given thickness. The few of the extracted surfaces are shown below:

The above pictures are the creation of first half of the b surface and the second half will be created as the same procedure which i explained earlier. The process of second half will be shown below:

TRIM:

The above image shows the first and second half of the b surface. To fill the gap between the surface,a sweep has been created bycreating a line using positioned sketch on the A surface by using multiple extract the guide curve has been created. The process will be shown as below:

From the above two figures,we can see that a gap is there which has to be filled between the aboce shown connected surface which will connect both the first half and second half.To do that,a line will be created on the adjacent surface of the sweep to perform the blend operation which can connect the two surface shown above.

So finally the first, second and the connecting surface looks altogether as the below shown:

So to complete the creation of b surface, the trim has to be performed between first and connected surface, then finally perform the trim with second half. The final b surface has been shown below:

B SURFACE:

To create b surface slot area of the door arm rest.First the faces of the slot has to be extracted from the A surface. Then the same process has been followed up by untrim, extrapolate, offset and trim the excess faces accordingly. The picturization of this same process is shown below:

SLOT TRIM:

So now the class C surface is created with the help of sweep(with the draft direction&with reference surface) and multisection surface as shown below:

As shown above the whole c surface has been created around the A surface with the help of sweep and multi section surface commands. The completely created c surface will be shown below:

Then the c surface will be joined with the A surface to perform the final trim with the b surface which creates the required final solid door arm rest.
