Design of backdoor
Back door Design
Aim:
To design the back door from the given reference skin as per the standards using CATIA.
Introduction:
The back door is the panel that covers the trunk of the automobile. It also enables access to the luggage compartment. The hinge allows it to lift and hold the back door. The back door is generally made up of an inner panel and outer panels joined together by hemming and spot welding where ever necessary.
The different regions or panels are:
- inner panel
- outer upper panel
- outer lower panel

2. lower panel
Reinforcements:
Reinforcements are provided for local strengthening. They are generally 1-1.5 mm thick.
Various reinforcements in the back door inner panela are:
- Hinge reinforcement
- Gas stay reinforcement
- wiper motor reinforcement
- Latch and striker reinforcement

Embossing and mastics:
Embossing is the metal forming process for producing raised or sunken designs in sheet metal. embosses are created to provide additional strength and to direct the force towards the body of the car.
mastics are the elastic compound that behaves like rubber between the outer and inner panel. Initially, it will be in paste form, and after the hot furnace bath, it gets hardened.

hemming-relief:
hemming is the process in which an edge is rolled flush to itself and also it improves the appearance of the body.
relief is provided to remove the stresses developed in particular areas. mainly during the hemming process so the edges are chamfered.
