Design of backdoor

DESIGN OF BACK DOOR

BACK DOOR:

The back door of a car is the vehicle's main storage or cargo compartment, often a hatch at the rear of the vehicle. It's also called a tailgate. The back door or luggage compartment is most often located at the rear of the vehicle. Early designs included an exterior rack mounted on the rear of the vehicle to which it was possible to attach a real luggage trunk. Later designs integrated the storage area into the vehicle's body and evolved to provide a streamlined appearance. The main storage compartment is normally provided at the end of the vehicle opposite to which the engine is located.

Components of back door

  1. Inner panel
  2. Wiper motor reinforcement
  3. Hinge reinforcement
  4. Gas stay renforcement
  5. Striker reinforcement
  6. Outer lower and upper panel

INNER PANEL

Inner door panel is a component which is use for strengthening the door assembly and it is one of the most important components on witch all accessories are mount like wiper motor, hinges, gas stay and striker.

Creation of inner panel:

  • For creation of inner panel first of all need to creat connecting surface

Then we have to created windshield

Embossing:

Sheet metal embossing is a stamping process for producing raised or sunken designs or relief in the sheet metal. This process can be made by means of matched male and female roller dies or by passing sheet or a strip of metal between rolls of the desired pattern. It is often combined with foil stamping to create a shiny, 3D effect. To provide strength to the inner panel and to distribute the forces produced during the impact with pedestrian or other obstacles to ensure the safety of the passengers. The forces are directed outwards through the embossing path

  • Embossing is created on windshield and mastics is also added for force distribution

Reinforcement:

Reinforcement to the outer panel of door embossed are created in such a way that Automobile crashes forced os directly transmitted towards the hinge point by safeguarding the passenger and driver.

  • Reinforcement is created for wiper motor, hing, gast stay and striker

Reinforcement for wiper motor

Reinforcement for hinge

Reinforcement for gas stay

Reinforcement for striker

Final inner panel

Heming:

HEMMING OPERATION:

Hemming is a mechanical joint design which is used for joining inner and outer closure panels as found indoors, hoods, bonnets and lift gates. To increase crash resistance the gap between the hemmed panels is filled with a high-strength adhesive which also prevents from corrosion
