Design of backdoor
DESIGN OF BACKDOOR -
OBJECTIVE - Design of backdoor outerpanel , backdoor innerpanel along with hinge reinforcements , gas stay reinforcements , wiper mounting reinforcement , latch and stryker reinforcement using Nx-cad software .
INTRODUCTION -
A car backdoor or tailgate is a hinged door at the backside of the car . this door allows us to access the trunk of the car . the backdoor is usually hinged on the roof of the car . the back door is generally operated using a gas stay . the car back is designed keeping in mind the luggage space and other equipments that will be mounted on the backdoor such as latch and stryker motor , wiper motor etc . the material used to manufacture backdoor is steel , aluminium . aluminium panel is made using casting process whereas steel panel is made from deep drawing process . since aluminium panel is casted its geometry can be of varying thickness . but sheet part has a single thickness and additional reinforcements are added in steel panel to give additional strength . since production cost of aluminium part is more than steel parts . a steel panel is mostly used .
DESIGN PROCEDURE -
The backdoor that we have designed has a inner panel and the outerpanel . it also consist of reinforcements for hinge, latch and stryker , gas stay and wiper motor reinforcement .
1 - Outer panel -
We have received the Styling surface for the backdoor as our input . the outer panel is divided into two parts upper and lower panel. it will be created separately and then welded together thickness of outerpanel is 0.75mm .

2 - Inner panel -
We create the inner panel with embosses to strengthen the structure . we have created mounting areas for the hinge , latch and stryker , gas stay and wiper motor on the inner panel. we have created a support which help to join the inner panel to the outer panel . this joining will be done with mastic . the thickness of innerpanel is kept as 0.75mm .

3 - Reinforcements -
We will create reinforcements for mountings of hinge , gasstay , latch and stryker and wiper motor . these reinforcements are used to give strength locally to the part . the thickness of emboss is kept as 1.5mm .

4 - Hem and hem reliefs -
We have created hem on the outerpanel such that it can be fitted with the inner panel . hem reliefs have been given in corners .

CONCLUSION-
We have created the car back door assembly , inner panel with necessary embosses, outer panel with hemming , reinforcements for the mounting. This project is done in Nx cad software .
