Design of backdoor

Use the provided styling surface to come up with a back door design, use appropriate design methodologies, and provide the necessary reinforcements and embosses.

BACK DOOR:

An automobile back door or Tailgate is the panel that covers an automobile’s boot (or trunk). It enables access to the main luggage compartment. A hinge allows the boot lid to be raised, while devices such as springs or gas cylinders hold it up in the open position The Backdoor is an assembly of many parts such as the inner panel, outer panel upper, outer panel lower, and Reinforcement. The inner panel is attached to the outer panel using mastic sealant.

Back Door Assembly:

  • Inner panel
  • outer panel
  • hinge and its reinforcement
  • wiper motor reinforcement
  • latch & striker and their reinforcement
  • gas stay reinforcement

The major problem in the back door is material selection. Mostly the n past days steel is used, but it makes a very problem the steel parts have heavyweight, which reduces the fuel economy, instead of steel presently in high-end cars aluminum is used, and the main objective of aluminum is t have less dense material and its suitable for complex shapes, and it also gives the thickness locally because it is done eating, in case of steel we used deep drawing operation. There are some advantages and disadvantages

Class A surface:

backdoor outer upper and lower class a surface must be repaired according to the smoothness. After repairing the surfaces, the door is divided into two parts Door Outer Upper and Doo Lower Panel.

Tooling axis:

To create the Tooling direction for the Deep drawing operation. It shows that all the operations like embossing are done by considering this vector direction and it will help in manufacturing the part, The back door is going to be manufactured by a deep drawing process. In the Deep Drawing, pro the cess has a tool which is the core, and the Piedish core part follows a single Straight path the inclination angle of the core is known as a tooling direction. The tooling direction/axis is created so, that the Manufacturing team tactics a reference of this tooling axis and manufactures the part accordingly.

Inner panel:

The design and direction of the embosses should guide the dissipating forces away from the passengers to the outside of the vehicle and thereby reducing the impact force drastically in case of a collision. Embosses also create strength in that region.

Emboss:

  • Hinge emboss
  • Gas stays emboss
  • Wiper motor emboss

HEMMING:

Hemming is the process of joining two surfaces using a set of rollers to bend the parent over the subpart. The brown parent part is the outer panel and the white subpart is the inner panel. Relief is done to decrease the stress concentration along the corners and also to decrease the clumping of metal along the corners, this is done by trimming the corner by a minimum radius for the rollers to pass along smoothly.

Open Hem:

A Hem has a full round feature and a return flange. In open hem, the bend angle is equal to 180 degrees.

Teardrop Hem:

In teardrop hem, the bend angle is greater than 180 degrees.

Closed Hem:

Hems without any inside radius are called closed hems. Closed hems are not recommended if the hem geometry is to be painted or if the material used is SST or Aluminium.

Draft analysis:

Draft Analysis is done to analyze the draft angle. This allows us to verify whether the product will be easily removed from the tool. When designing a product it needs to be slightly angled so that the tool can be pulled away from the part easily, without deformation or damage. This slight angle is called a draft.

A minimum Draft of 7 Degrees is provided for easy manufacturing of sheet metal.

FINAL ASSEMBLY:

Conclusion:

The Back door was designed in "Siemens NX Student Version" with all the possible known required design guidelines for back door design and manufacturing.
