Design of backdoor

Objective: To develop the car back door by using given styling surface by automotive sheet metal design using NX12

Introduction:

  • Design of Back door is also called as rail gate.A car back door which conveys of inner and outer panel. Basically the car parts are made up of steel or aluminum based on the budget of the car.
  • Using aluminum improve the strength where we can improve the reinforcements. Aluminium parts are casted and we can vary the thickeness of the part. Because this will reduce the number of parts as compared to steel. Only drawback is cost of aluminium which is high cost compared to steel.
  • Steel parts are tampered and we can't vary the thickness of the part because mode number of parts added. Which could increase the number of parts.
  • So now a days most of the car manufacturers are using aluminum instead of steel and they reduce the number of parts and reduce cost drastically.

types :

The back door consists of

  • back door Outer panel upper
  • back door Outer panel lower
  • Back door inner panel
  • Hinge reinforcement
  • Gas stay reinforcement
  • Latch striker reinforcement
  • Wiper motor reinforcement

OUTER PANEL

  • outer panel is the styling surface of the back door.it is the source of the design of the other parts of the back door and we had given thickness 0.75mm
  • Hemming is the process in which edge is rolled to itself to join the edge of two materials
  • Hemming is done on the outer panel with clearance on either sides.since the corners are difficult to hem, clearances has given at the ends of the panel

  • corner relief helps to control sheet metal material behaviour and to prevent unwanted deformation during unbend operations

INNER PANEL:

  • Inner panel is the component which is used for strengthen the back door and it was the important component on which all the reinforcement are mounted and inner panel is mounted on the outer panel with the help if Hemming process
  • Creating emboos in the outrer panel direction because when the Collison occurs from back side of the car the impact initially falls on the embossed faces then force desipates according to the design of emboss

DRAFT ANALYSIS

REINFORCEMENT

  • Reinforcement are generally used to increase the strength of the mountings
  • If there is an unnecessary noise occurs at the time of motion it wwill reduce and it also increases the overall stiffness of the part

LATCH-STRICKER- REINFORCEMENT

  • It plays a major role in opening and closing of the back door.
  • hence the opening and closing we have to ensure the center Pont of latch has to be the same point and the trajectory has to be tangent to the open and close that is drawn

GAS-STAY REINFORCEMENT

  • We need reinforcement for the gas stay also while opening and closing the back door
  • it is use dto lift up the tail gate
  • gas stay plays a major role,we used gas stay for the back doors is for smooth opening of the back door

HINGE- REINFORCEMENT

  • it is a mechanical bearing that connects two solid objects, allow only a limited angle od rotation between them
  • The door hinges for automobiles are used to hold the door in a prede-fined axis during closing and opening operation.
  • Apart from that, the door hinges are also important in automobiles as it holds the door in position during car accidents.

WIPER-MOTOR- REINFORCEMENT

  • The car wiper motor is the component that powers the windshield wipers.
  • As it spins, a mechanism built to it rotates a worm gear, arm and, finally, the windshield or windscreen wiper blades.
  • The wiper blades then rid the windscreen of water, snow, dust, or any other debris that may affect visibility when driving.

ASSEMBLY

conclusion:

thus using the provided styling surface back door is designed with appropriate design methodologies and provided the necessary reinforcements and embosses
