Challenge

Creating Walls, Partition walls and Floors for a residential layout using REVIT

1) Use the project file created from Week 2. Use it for this assignment. Based on your layout from week 2, using the floor tool under the architecture tab and select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser to create a layout in the Ground floor level. Align the floor plan with grids created from week 2

AIM: To select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser and align the floor plan with grids.

Tools Used: Floor architecture, Grids, Properties browser.

Procedure:

Step1: open the previous challenge project in recent files in the welcome screen or use the open option to open the previous project

Step2: After opening the file use floor architecture in the architecture tab to create a floor.

Step3: Use draw tools to create the floor to the layout before creating duplicate the floor and change the thickness and material.

Step4: After creating click on finish and it will look like this.

Step5: Now create the grids to the layout using grids in the datum panel in the architecture tab.

Step6: After creation, it will look like this in 3D view.

RESULT: Floor with material and thickness is added successfully to the layout and grids are aligned to the floor layout.

2) Add walls based on the floor layout. Pick lines or use the draw tool to modify the boundary of walls. Use the property browser to select appropriate material and thickness for walls. After creating the walls verify using the property browser to see if the top and bottom of the walls are constrained.

AIM: To add walls based on the floor layout and make use of the draw tool to modify the boundary of walls. Use the property browser to select appropriate material and thickness for walls and see the top and bottom of the walls are constrained.

Tools Used: walls architecture, property browser, 3D view.

Procedure:

Step1: Now open the layout created.

Step2: Now we have to do interior detailing of the plan.

Step3: Select wall architecture and create according to the plan.

Step4: duplicate the wall and create an interior wall of thickness 4” and material accordingly.

Step5: And place the interior walls according to the plan by selecting them in the property browser.

RESULT: The walls are created to the layout and wall thickness and material is added with the help of property browser and top & bottom of the walls are constrained.

a). Based on your observation, what is beneficial for connecting walls with associated levels rather than being Unconnected

ANS: Based on my observation, if the height of the levels is changed then the height of the wall will also be changed automatically if the walls are connected to the levels.

b). Which option is convenient for modeling walls, By Height or By Depth?

ANS: Height is more convenient option than depth for modeling walls.

3) Copy the model elements (wall, floor) modeled to Ground Floor Level and paste it aligned to First Floor Level. Use modify tab to utilize copy and paste options to align
elements to a different level

AIM: To copy the model elements modeled from Ground Floor Level and paste it aligned to First Floor Level & use modify tab to utilize copy and paste options.

Tools Used: Copy and paste tools in modify tab, first floor, ground floor, 3D view.

Procedure:

Step1: open the previous file and right-click on level one in the project browser to rename the view as the ground floor.

Step2: Now a window will appear on the screen that is it ok to change view then click on ok to rename.

Step3: Like the same way change the level 2 also to the first floor after changing it will look like this.

Step4: Now click on copy to clipboard in modify tab after selecting all the things on the ground floor then click on the paste to selected levels to paste the modeled things.

Step5: Now select the level in which you have to paste the copied one then click on ok.

Step6: Now the modeled elements had been copied to the first floor.

RESULT: The first-floor level is created successfully by the copy and paste option and the 3D view looks like the below image.

4) Use interior partition walls to create separate rooms within your residential unit. The model must include the following rooms

  1. Living Room/ Drawing Room (15’ X 18’)
    b. Dining Room (9’ X 11’)
    c. Bed Room ( 9’ X 12’ and 15’ X 11’)
    d. Rest Room ( 10’ X 12’ )
    e. Kitchen (8’ X 10’)

The above are examples. You can use them or use your measured entities to create your model based on your layout. You may include entry walkways, Patios, or Guest rooms based on your creativity and purpose of modeling. Convert units if you are using the metric system

AIM: To create separate rooms for the layout by using interior partition walls including the following rooms:
a. Living Room/ Drawing Room (15’ X 18’)
b. Dining Room (9’ X 11’)
c. Bed Room ( 9’ X 12’ and 15’ X 11’)
d. Rest Room ( 10’ X 12’ )
e. Kitchen (8’ X 10’)

Tools Used: Wall architecture, interior wall, property browser.

Procedure:

Step1: Create a new project.

Step2: Then save the project in the appropriate location.

Step3: After creating a new file now use the wall tool to create a layout according to the plan.

Step4: After creation, it will look like this in 3D view.

Step5: Now use the room tags and room separator to give names to the rooms in the plan.

RESULT: The interior partition walls are created successfully for the layout and named the rooms using room tags and the 3D view is shown below.

5) Based on the week 2 assignment, the components to be included in a residential unit were inserted into the Revit file. Place these components in appropriate locations to add details to your residential model

  1. Place Doors and windows in the wall at appropriate locations
    b. The Living Room must include furniture set, couch table, and TV desk and shelf cabinets
    c. The Dining Room must include a table and chairs serving the purpose of eating
    d. Bed Room must include a bed set, shelf, lighting, and individual study desk and chair
    e. Restroom should include bathtub and plumbing fixtures discussed in class
    f. Kitchen should include countertops, gas stove cabinet, and shelves to store food items
    g. The wash/storage room can include washing machines and shelves to store clothes

All the components are available in Revit Library. Use them to place at appropriate locations to add details to your model. Use 3D navigation to check the model and its authenticity on a real-time basis to verify the model

AIM: To add the components to the residential unit and place them in the appropriate location of the project.

Tools Used: Components, project browser, load family, doors, windows.

Procedure:

Step1: Now open the assignment 2 project and place doors and windows in the plan using the property browser to select the specific type.

Step2: Now use components tools in the architecture tab to place the specific components to be placed in the appropriate location.

Step3: Now the plan looks like this after placing the components.

Step4: Use a camera tool to see them in 3D view for each room.

Step5: The rooms with furniture looks like this in 3D view.

RESULT: By this, we can add the components into the model in the appropriate places and viewed them in 3D using a Camera.
