Concept on positioning of Columns
Q1.
Symmertic :
Investigation of the plan from the Y direction
If we cut he plan into two eqaul parts it looks like mirroring the another parts of the structure so it is symmetric in the Y direction.
Investigation of the plan from the X direction
Similarly. If we cut the plan into two parts here also it is symmetric in this direction also .
Redundancy :
Investigation of the plan from the Y direction
The column are well distributed and more in number then the columns in the X direction so it is more redundant in the X direction but the top and bottom columns are compairatively low
Investigation of the plan from the Y direction
The columns that are well distributed but it is less in number compair to the X direction is has less redundance in the Y direction .
Bi-directional stiffness:
The columns in horizontal direction(X direction) are well connected throughout the structure ,So the any lateral load or seismic load acted in the building passes through the direction uniformly and there is no diversion takes place. So no or less possibility of force diversion takes place.
The columns in the vertical direction( Y direction) are not connected with straight to straight beams. So a lateral load passes through the this direction will lead to diversion force so ther is higher then the X direction.
Ductility:
prima facie , the aspect ratio of the plan clearly hints more column in X direction compared to Y direction .it will results in higher stiffness of the building in X direction , which would reduce ductility in X axis
Moreover the X force will easily pass from one bay to its next due to beam alignment .Whereas the Y force will struggle to pass through the north south beams are arranged in Zig - Zag which leads to Discontinous bracing
We can conclude that the given framing plan is more ductile in Y direction than that of in X direction
Q2.
Vertical Irregularity:
The building plan area is large than the bottom stroyies the floor plan area is getting reduced in the increasing of height , So these building offsets has to be crosschecked with reference to IS 1893 - 2016 table 6
Soft - Story :
The building has uncovered opening space in 6th floor as there is no occupancy or a partition wall , this will lead to plastic hinge formation at the columns ( with reference to IS 1893 - 2016 Figure 4A) this has to be checked and sufficiently designed
Slopy base :
The building is construction on sloping ground at one side this will lead to significant variation in the stiffness ( With reference to IS 1893 - 2016 Figure 5E) Few levels may be subjected to soft storey mechanism.
Q3.
The open ground floor leads to soft storey mechanism acting in the building
Rooms along 2 bays separated by an open corridor the bays filled with rooms will have higher mass compared to the middle bay left open for corridor.this induces mass irregularity along height uniformly
Two short sides covered with infill walls this means the building's left and right sides periphery is more stiffer during seismic forces
Staircase portion at left top corner - Usulally staircase and lift portions are stiffer than the other parts because of concentrated concrete elements so the staircase portion contains more stiffnes in the provided building plan.
There is no framing in the vertical direction beacuse no beam connection in the vertical side so if an earth quake accured in the vertical direction it can easly colapse
