Challenge 9 : Project : Technical Surfacing Kia Sportage
Title:
The technical surfacing of Kia Sportage.

Objective:
To be able to model the Kia Sportage car following all technical requirements.
Introduction:
Technical surfacing is the process of following all the technical requirements of a design, and the set of rules for achieving the surface as required.
In this project, I used all the components of the car are designed in detail to achieve a better class A surface. And the alloy wheels were also modeled in detail and to maintain all the continuity I modeled my patched one after the other,
The fender and the side doors surfaces are formed in a way of transitioning on more than two surfaces to achieve this surface I used multiple patches and aligned properly.
For further detailing I added fillets over the sharp edges.
Design Methodology/ Approach:

Description:
The technical surfacing is an important part of the design as we create rough sketches then we move on to the technical surfacing. The surface formed by technical surfacing will be given to the engineering team.
The following rules are followed in the technical surfacing.
Rule1: Single span surface.
Rule2: aim to use four-sided surfaces.
Rule3: Concentrate on the flow of the CVs
Rule4: Use a Minimum range of CVs – It will reduce the work and increase control over the flow of CV’s.
Rule 5: Build massive to small (first build the massive surfaces and then go for small like fillets).
Rule6: Build theoretical edges (sharp edges) first then do the finishing.
Rule7: Sett the tolerances as a requirement at starting of all to avoid time& money loss.
Rule8: Ensure the tangency across the centerline.
Rule9: Avoid building surfaces from the trimmed edges.
Rule10: Match the curves from the opposite sides with the same spline.
In this project, the below tools are used (major):
- Import Canvas
- Scale
- Move
- CV Curve
- Pick Curves, CV, Object
- Align
- Duplicate
- Extend
- Blend
- Blend Edit
- Surface
- Project
- Trim
- Draft
- Intersection
Procedure:
As per the requirement of the client, the tolerance needs to be set and then the next step is to create a dimension box that will be equal to the total car volume, and then select the layout view and import the canvas, repeat for all the sides of car canvas.
Select a component and start building the curves and then build the surface, while building the curves following the same number of curves and CV position to achieve good quality curves and surfaces.
And follow all Rules to get a good quality model.
Then follow the same procedure for all the components and complete the design.
After creating the first and second surfaces they move to the territory surfaces which are fillets.
Conclusion:
The KIA Sportage is modeled by following all the rules to get good quality and technical surfacing.
