As the name suggests benchmarking is to compare your organization, its operations with best in the market. This process takes place within(internally) or outside(with the competetive organization in same industry) the organization on various levels-
1. Process 2. Product 3. strategy 4. Operation
Major key points on which the product is measured during the process of benchmarking are-
1. Quality 2. Time 3. Cost
Benchmarking in Auto Industry
Similarly in automotive sector before launching a new vehicle or new variant of existing one, OEMs do thid kind of benchmarking to understand the market and study the competetion. This helps them to strategize their own product and services and cost.
This Benchmarking process takes place at two levels-
Bencmarking1- This takes place during the initial stage of the vehicle development. During this OEMs takes crucial decesions like what type of vehicle this will be, what kind of features will be there.
Benchmarking 2- After concept preparation based on first benchmarking, now this is time to go into details of these featrues which were decided. This whole detailed study of different aspects of the vehicle will be done by assigned engineers with the expertise in that aspects.
Sometimes it is not practical to conduct such deep studies within the OEMs facilities. Here comes the role of the platforms which conducts these studies. One of such platfrom is A2mac1 which does these detailed benchmarking globaly.
