BENCHMARKING
BENCHMARKING
What is BenchMarking?
Benchmarking is the first and foremost process carried out in the development of any product whether it is for the development of a new car, bike or even a small product like a pendrive. Benchmarking allows you to understand the pros and cons of a product and leads the way for its improvement by taking a brief survey on the product's initial features and features to be added.
How its done?
Benchmarking is done in companies by comparing and analyzing a product with the competitor's product so that the cons of the competitor's product will give us an idea to improve in our product and making it an advantage.
What are its uses?
Well, by doing benchmark, one can simply not only get the overall information of the specified product but also gets many ideas on improving its features and efficiency and making it stand out of all of its competitors.
What are its types?
Usually Benchmarking has two levels:
- BenchMarking I
- BenchMarking II
Benchmarking I is the process of comparing the price, competitors product features, Specifications and features of the product in that segment.
Benchmarking II is the deep comparision of the components of the product with that of competitor's by improving its performance, efficiency, life span, wear and tear, etc.,
QUESTION:
Mr . D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises of five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father and mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family .
Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars.
SOLUTION:
First of all, things to keep in mind,
- He is a married man
- Lives in bangalore (Crowded city)
- Has a 5 year old boy (Safety must be considered)
- travels to a place which is 500km far from bangalore. (Mileage should be high, hence Diesel Cars are preferred since it gives greater mileage than petrol cars.)
- Budget is 8-10 Lakhs
- Fond of Big Cars (SUVs are preferred)
From Here, We conclude that...
Mr. Pughalyendhii's choice of car should be a Diesel powered SUV under 10 lakhs -having Good G-NCAP Crash test rating and give good Mileage.
Based on the information I got, I have given a set of four cars which help him get a better decision.
1. HONDA AMAZE :

TYPE : Sub-Compact SUV
FUEL USED : Diesel
MILEAGE : 24.7 kmpl
G-NCAP RATING : Adults - 4 stars, Child - 1 star
PRICE : 7-10 Lakhs
2. MAHINDRA XUV300 :

TYPE : SUV
FUEL USED : Diesel
MILEAGE : 20.27 kmpl
G-NCAP RATING : Adults - 5 stars, Child - 4 star
PRICE : 8-10 Lakhs
3. Hyundai i20 :

4. MARUTI SUZUKI VITARA BREZZA:

TYPE : SUV
FUEL USED : Diesel
MILEAGE : 24 kmpl
G-NCAP RATING : Adults -4 stars, Child - 2 star
PRICE : 7-10 Lakhs
CONCLUSION:
Considering all the criteria for buying a car, I would suggest Mr. Pughazyendhii a MAHINDRA XUV300 as the best choice. Reasons for my choice is just because he has a 5 year old boy included in his family and since bangalore is a crowded city, it is more prone to accidents and so safety comes first. Hence by comparing other vehicles with XUV300, The crash test report gives extra ordinary stars ratings leaving other vehicles behind. Hence My first and Best choice will be Mahindra XUV300.
