- Benchmarking is a stage where the products/model are compared with other OEM's on the market. In the automotive industry benchmarking is the an initial stage of pre design/development process were the product/components are compared by their performance, strength, cost, material, weight, etc.
- simplest way to define a benchmarking is study of the product, analyize and do reverse engg on it.
- Benchmarking will be done by the respective OEM who are going to update or create a new component on their own products.
- There are number of stages on benchmarking and it is depend upon the standards of the companies.
- For eg)Let's say maruti suzuki swift(2020) as to update their model with some additiona features on it,so they first do benchmarking on old model of suzuki swift(2012) and other hatchback cars like Hundai i20,Ford figo,Volkswagen polo, etc. Then they do reverse engg on it study the datas ,analyize and come to an idea of making the new product.
