Benchmarking
BENCHMARKING
Benchmarking is the process of measuring and comparing the performance aspects of a company's product, service, or process with that of a top market ruling company involved in the same domain. By benchmarking one can identify the different opportunities and room for improvement in their lack of field. Breaking down superior quality helps in implementing them and deriving significant results.
TYPES OF BENCHMARKING
There are two types of benchmarking
- Technical benchmarking: It is the benchmarking performed by the design staff to determine the scope and capabilities of the product, service, or process in comparison with the leading competitor's products or services.
- Competitive benchmarking: It is the benchmarking which compares how well or poorly an organization is performing with respect to the leading competitors, especially with respect to critically important attributes, functions, or values.
BENCHMARKING PROCEDURE
- Consideration: Which product, service, or process is to be considered so that maximum efficiency can be obtained without wasting time and resources
- Plan: Establishing the goal, support, and measurement of output for carrying out the processes smoothly.
- Collect: Gathering the information/data from partner organizations about process description and numerical data by questionnaires and interviews.
- Analyze: Comparing and analyzing the data collected and figuring out the changes that have to be performed.
- Adapt: Implementing the derived outcome of the analysis to maximize the profit and efficiency of the product, service, or process
CHALLENGE BENCHMARKING CASE STATEMENT
Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, a five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him options so that he will buy a good car for his family.
Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars
As D.S. Pughazhyendhii has 5 family members the best car option would be a SEDAN or SUV
According to my suggestion following are the top preferred SUV in the market.

CONCLUSION
From the above benchmarking and considering the budget as well as the requirement statement. I would suggest Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii's family, TATA NEXON as it meets all the conditions for a family car . Being the safest and having great performance and efficiency makes it stand out . If the budget would have been more I would have recommended getting the diesel variant of TATA NEXON (low maintenance and more mileage)
