they are two bench markings called bench marking 1 and bench marking 2
the bench marking is nothing but comparison between two vehicles, like comparing the older product with newer one.
examples like
1) if the old Maruthi Suzuki Brezza doesn't have a sunroof in car, so the engineers of this company create some concepts like adding some extra features to new Maruthi Suzuki brezza
which is going to launch further.
so, here the older brezza can be called as bench marking 1 and newer brezza which is modified can be called as bench marking 2.
in the same way all the automobile industry engineers will think to modify some new or extra features which is not available in previous one, according to the present market and generation

Bench marking in the automobile industry involves structured comparison between similar products, services or process on same dimensions of performance.

- Pollutant emissions.
- Friction.
- Thermal, energy management and etc.
